Suzanne Hensler
Teacher Certification Cohort 18

How long have you wanted to be a teacher?
I’ve known that I wanted to be a teacher for most of my life, though my desire to pursue teaching became very clear to me about two years ago as I was finishing my undergraduate degree.

How do you think you’ll feel the first time you step in front of a class?
I think I’ll feel very intimidated and very excited when I first step in front of a class!

What do you think your students will like best about you?
My students will like my patience and kindness best about me.

What was your background coming into the program?
I completed the Education Minor at UWB during my undergraduate coursework, and as a result I had been spending a lot of time in elementary schools volunteering and I loved it!

Where did you go to elementary school?
Lake Forest Park Elementary

What does the  word “cohort” mean to you?
After being in this program, “cohort” means a very supportive group of people working together towards a common goal.

What will you miss most about UW Bothell when you finish your program?
I will miss my cohort more than anything, but overall, the support that I have been getting from faculty and classmates. Though, I’m not anticipating losing that support completely.

Where would you most like to take a class of students outside of school?
There are so many places to choose from, but I think I would have to pick the Waste Management site in which students can see the recycling process up close.
