Zoom is a web and app-based videoconferencing tool that offers participant interaction via chat, meeting actions, screen sharing and breakout rooms. It is available for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android devices. Browser extensions are available for Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons. An account is not needed to participate in a Zoom meeting.
Faculty and staff can host live online courses, offer virtual office hours, breakout rooms, session recording, chat interaction and collaborate with colleagues in other locations.

How Do I Get a Zoom Account?
You can get the free Basic account by signing up at the Zoom website with your UW email address and installing the Zoom browser plugin. This option does not have Single Sign-On authentication. You need an account to set up a meeting, invite participants and record a meeting.
The UW Single Sign-On (SSO) Pro accounts are now available for a yearly fee paid to UW-IT Seattle of $48/user, automatically renewed each year. For more information, go to the IT Connect UW Zoom Videoconferencing page.
To request UW Zoom accounts, submit the Zoom Conferencing order form, include the department budget number that will pay for the annual fee and the NetIDs of the designated users. The order form also lists all of the available add-ons and corresponding yearly pricing.
Getting Started with Zoom
Whether you are using a PC or Mac computer, an Android or iOS mobile device, Zoom will provide a rich audio and video experience.
- To just participate, all you need is the Chrome or Firefox browser add-in, easily installed without Admin permissions. A Zoom account is not required.
- After you have a Zoom account, Basic or Pro, and would like to use the Zoom Client for Meetings or the Zoom Plugin for Microsoft Outlook, please submit a Software Request with UW Bothell IT Helpdesk.
