CSS SPEAR cloud has been used to host several pre-qualifying events for the Pacific Rim Collegiate Cyber-Defense Competition (PRCCDC), support cyber-defense training with the Washington Army National Guard, and provide a test bed for malware research performed under contract with Charles Rivers and Associates.

Through CSS SPEAR cloud, the competition environment can be accessible year round and it can be provisioned to enable teams throughout the region to practice and prepare. This resource is also available to the Washington Army National Guard for their cyber training exercise, a tremendous collaboration between UW Bothell, Camp Murray, and the Center for Information Assurance and Cybersecurity at the University of Washington Seattle. This training has resulted in a series of exercises that enable the Washington Army National Guard to prepare its Computer Network Defense team with training and a platform for working with the community. As the National Guard mission expands to provide cybersecurity and information assurance capabilities to the state and related agencies in the event of an emergency, these cyber defense exercises will serve in a role of community outreach and training. This is extremely important for emergency preparedness operations at a State level and CSS SPEAR cloud provides the infrastructure to enable this training.
