As summer comes to a close, we want to thank everyone who came out to programming and supported CoSEE! This summer we supported 12 incredible interns, who contributed to a wide range of projects, research, and programs. This brings CoSEE to a total of 30 interns in the last 12 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of these interns have returned for additional roles with CoSEE, gone on to pursue advanced degrees, or presented at UW research symposiums. We are so grateful to support so many incredible students. As we look ahead to the school year, we\u2019re excited to launch new programs and welcome a new cohort of interns. If you or someone you know is interested in joining us this year please send them the application link below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeff Jensen<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Jeff Jensen, UW Bothell faculty and CoSEE advisor, recently shared research at the Society for Northwest Vertebrate Biology showing that the once-thought-extinct Native Lake Washington kokanee salmon populations carry unique microchemical markers in their ear bones (otoliths).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lake Washington is an urbanized watershed, and native kokanee have been eliminated from nearly all the small streams they formerly used for spawning. Jensen\u2019s research suggests that restoration of native kokanee into carefully selected streams in their former range may reduce their continued risk of extinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
