The framework was developed by Dr. Megan Bang and Dr. Carrie Tzou, Principal Investigators of the Learning in Places Collaborative, and others on the Learning in Places team as a tool for supporting learner sense-making within and across time and place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Creation of Environmental Education and Research Center (EERC)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/cosee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/57\/2025\/02\/History-Of-The-EERC-2017-gym-annex-standard.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-219\" style=\"width:300px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2017<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In\u00a02017<strong>,<\/strong>\u00a0Washington State Parks signed a lease with Daniels Real Estate company to renovate the old seminary building\u00a0for use as a lodge or hotel. Through community backing and\u00a0input\u00a0the lease also included over 2,000 square feet of space for\u00a0an environmental education research center (EERC) to be created in the gym annex building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2018\u20132019<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Through\u00a02018 and 2019,\u00a0there was a continuation of EERC Community-based planning taking place.\u00a0The partnership between UW Bothell and Washington State Parks was signed along with funding from the Washington State Legislature. As well as sinks and counters included for wet lab activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Outdoor learning area that includes garden and seating.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sustainability design features leading to\u00a0Core Green\u00ae Building Designation pending funding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>UW Bothell also\u00a0committed\u00a0support for 3.5\u00a0years to develop EERC infrastructure and programming.\u00a0Renovations began in\u00a0March\u00a02021.
