Student Civic Leaders Fellowship
The Student Civic Leaders Fellowship is made possible through a partnership with UW Bothell and Washington Campus Compact. The 2020-2021 UW Bothell student fellows are our founding fellows. They are gaining hands-on civic leadership experience, building relationships with community organizations, and connecting the campus and larger student body with community in a meaningful way. This year their focus areas are on mental health, and K-16 civic education.
Who is Washington Campus Compact?
Washington Campus Compact (WACC) serves as a coalition of higher education institutions. They are committed to advancing the public purposes of colleges and universities, educating students for civic responsibility, and working in partnerships to cultivate vital and sustainable communities across the state.

Diversifying Pathways
The goal of the Diversifying Pathways collaborative work is to develop and sustain a cross-institutional partnership that support seamless academic student pathways for North Puget Sound students from under-represented communities into teaching, healthcare, and STEM careers. We achieve this by actively reducing cultural and bureaucratic barriers within and across our organizations through strengthened collaborations and cross-institutional program design. The fellow activities include grant research, grant writing, administrative backbone support for the Diversifying Pathways collaborative.

Sno-Isle Libraries – Mariner Community Campus
The Mariner Community Campus exists to create accessibility and to provide basic needs and resources to local residents in the Mariner-area community. Sno-Isle Libraries identified an underserved need and in February, 2017, opened the Mariner Library in a storefront as a demonstration project. Since the doors opened, there have been more than 80,000 visits to the community library. The fellows in this position are serving students, local community, and partnership between the local community and UW Bothell. The goal of the position is to increase civic leadership skills for UW Bothell students, develop young adult leadership capacity for the Mariner Community Campus Neighborhood, and increase UW Bothell’s connection to the Mariner Community Campus project and community. The Fellows would be acting as a liaison between the Mariner campus Community and UW Bothell. Attending monthly community advisory committee meetings, participating in working group sub committees, and helping plan community events.

National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) Seattle
NAMI Seattle is the only organization in the Seattle area working specifically to fill the gaps in our local mental health system through peer-led education, referrals, and support. Today, NAMI is the largest grassroots mental health organization in the nation. Our peer-led presentations, classes and support groups bridge the gap when medical models fail to meet our needs. Fellows support youth mental health, BIPOC mental health, and other mental health programming. The fellow has the opportunity to become trained as an Ending the Silence presenter and works to create resources/infographics for parents and BIPOC communities.

The Washington Bus
The Washington Bus is a statewide movement-building organization that engages young people in the civic process. We focus our resources on empowering young people of color, LGBTQ youth, first-generation college students, and young people from working-class and immigrant communities. We activate our generation through education, civic participation, and hands-on democracy, and work to put the young people most often excluded from the political process at its center. The fellow activities includeengaging young people in civic processes through creating graphics, communications outlets, Trello, and social media.
