{"id":24085,"date":"2024-10-28T20:50:54","date_gmt":"2024-10-28T20:50:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/chancellor\/?page_id=24085"},"modified":"2026-10-21T18:30:22","modified_gmt":"2026-10-21T18:30:22","slug":"newman-civic-fellowship","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/chancellor\/awards\/newman-civic-fellowship\/","title":{"rendered":"Newman Civic Fellowship"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As a <a href=\"https:\/\/compact.org\/\">Campus Compact<\/a> member institution, UW Bothell\u2019s chancellor has the opportunity each year to nominate a student for the <a href=\"https:\/\/compact.org\/current-programs\/student-programming\/newman-civic-fellowship\">Newman Civic Fellowship<\/a>, a year-long program that recognizes and supports student public problem solvers. Throughout the fellowship year, Campus Compact provides students with opportunities to nurture their assets and help them develop strategies for social change\u2014creating a network of connected and engaged student leaders who can support one another in making positive change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Student must be currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program at UW Bothell. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students must be enrolled at UW Bothell for the full duration of the fellowship (September &#8217;27 through May &#8217;28). Therefore, at the time of nomination, students must have at least one academic year of their education remaining at UW Bothell.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nomination procedure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty, staff, students, and community partners are eligible to submit nominations for consideration by the UW Bothell chancellor. Students are welcome to self-nominate. To be considered for the 2027-2028 fellowship, complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.cloud.microsoft\/Pages\/ResponsePage.aspx?id=W9229i_wGkSZoBYqxQYL0lHT1i87oBtFn0b5w2odbptURDQ2VUo4QjRCTUpWQVUxNzZTWkg5VTAxOC4u\">nomination form<\/a> by <strong>Wednesday, December 9, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Criteria for selection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A student is selected for the fellowship by the chancellor based on their potential for public leadership and their work with communities. Newman Civic Fellows are students who:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Engage in collaborative action with others from campus or from surrounding communities in order to create long-term social change. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take action in addressing issues of inequality and political polarization. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate the motivation and potential for effective long-term civic engagement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fellowship program components<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout the fellowship year, Campus Compact provides Newman Civic Fellows with opportunities for learning and networking virtually and in person.
