UW Bothell values the many staff and faculty members who engage in service independent of their positions on campus. Aligned with the Carnegie Foundation\u2019s purpose of community engagement, this award recognizes staff and faculty service efforts that address critical societal issues; contribute to an engaged citizenry; strengthen democratic values and civic responsibility; and contribute to the public good.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Permanent staff positions (classified and professional) and all faculty (tenured and tenure-track faculty, teaching faculty, full- and part-time lecturers, and artists-in-residents) are eligible to apply. Applicants must have worked at UW Bothell for at least two years prior to applying.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nomination and application procedure&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Nominations may be made by faculty, staff, students, or by a member of an organization that has benefited from the public service activity. A nomination is not required for a faculty or staff member to apply and does not affect a faculty or staff member\u2019s chances of being selected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2026 award process is now closed. Applications for the 2027 award will be due in early December 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Criteria for selection&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Public service work may be short- or long-term, may be undertaken with single or multiple partners, and may be local, state, national, or global service work. The employee should be active with service work within the past two years of working at UW Bothell. Service work needs to be performed without compensation. It may be uncompensated consulting work within one\u2019s area of expertise, or volunteer work in other areas.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Evidence of impact through service efforts.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Service activity contributed to one or multiple of the Carnegie Foundation\u2019s purpose of community engagement: address critical societal issues; contribute to an engaged citizenry; strengthen democratic values and civic responsibility; and\/or contribute to the public good.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alignment with UW Bothell\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/about\/mission-vision\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mission, Vision, and Core Values<\/a>&nbsp;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mission:&nbsp;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>access to higher education&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>life-long learning&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>build an inclusive and supportive community of learning and incorporate multicultural content and diverse perspectives on ethnic and racial groups, gender, sexual orientation, social class, and special needs&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>foster productive relationships with the employment community and promote a strong public service commitment&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vision: &nbsp;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>serve as a catalyst to enhance the quality of life throughout our region&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>committed to disciplined inquiry and responsible service&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>valued in the community&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Core Values:&nbsp;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>transformational education&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>engaged scholarship&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>inclusive culture&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Review committee<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications are&nbsp;reviewed by a committee appointed by the chancellor that includes a faculty member, staff member and student who work with community partners. The committee uses an evaluation rubric based on the criteria above when reviewing each applicant\u2019s materials.
