Tragedy in Mukilteo hits close to home for UW Bothell

Yesterday was a day of tremendous heartbreak for our community. One of the victims in the fatal shootings in Mukilteo was one of our students, Anna Bui. Our hearts go out to her family and friends for their terrible loss.
The suspect who has been arrested is Allen Ivanov, also a UW Bothell student.
There's no doubt some of you know Anna or Allen, or both and will be devastated by this news. I implore you to counter violence with compassion. Understanding the cruel twists of life is not an easy task. Often, it helps to share your feelings with family and loved ones, and/or with professionals. Please don't hesitate to use the many resources available at UW Bothell, listed below.
We will hold a community support gathering tomorrow (Aug. 1) at 1 p.m. on the second floor of the Activities and Recreation building. Students, staff and faculty are invited to honor Anna and to provide and receive comfort in this time of mourning. There will also be a vigil this evening at 7 p.m. at Mukilteo’s Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is located next to Kamiak High School.
Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this senseless act of violence. I hope you will all join me in offering our deepest sympathies to the victims’ families.
