09/21/2016 The Center on Reinventing Public Education (CRPE), located in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood, is one of the nation’s top education policy research organizations. Named as one of TED's "100 (education) websites you should know and use”, we produce a vital and comprehensive array of research, support and convening services, and technical assistance for a growing number of the nation's most progressive school systems and districts. CRPE is currently seeking an hourly junior research assistant to join our awesome team and contribute to the ongoing research projects across the center. The research assistant’s This is an exciting opportunity to gain exposure to and participate in rigorous research projects working with smart and fun national experts in education policy. YOU are someone who can thrive in a small team, is a self-starter, and can efficiently juggle multiple demands. You’re comfortable acting both independently and collaboratively on complicated work with skills pulling together information from various sources (interviews, databases, relevant literature, etc.) for analysis by the team. It involves clear and regular communication between people working on different research projects at the Center both in person and via collaboration tools. The work includes opportunity to help translate research and its results into meaningful terms for a variety of non-academic audiences. Motivated candidates will find incredible opportunity to gain a wide range of experiences and hone technical skills. Responsibilities: Contribute approximately 15 hours per week, to support Senior Analyst, Betheny Gross, and her team on quantitative and qualitative research projects. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be an advanced undergraduate who has sophisticated Excel, spreadsheet and data skills. An interest or curiosity in education policy would help the work be more meaningful, but is not necessarily a requirement of the job. Activities: Activities will be varied. Approximately 65% of activities will range from: · reviewing relevant scholarly literature · downloading and preparing large administrative data sets for analysis · helping to analyze and summarize data for reports using statistical methods · activities will range from collecting, to examine complex problems of data and analysis (~65%). Remainder of time will be devoted to supporting other Center data collection and analysis projects. Required: • Advanced skills managing databases (including Excel) and preparing charts/graphs from data. • Some experience with research methodology, interest in both qualitative and quantitative data. Following coursework is desired: corporate finance, managerial accounting, business statistics. • Candidates must exercise good judgment and be able to work independently with minimal direction and as part of a team. • Strong technical skills, ability to efficiently use computer software and tools to complete analysis or communicate work.
