The Seattle Police Department is actively recruiting a part-time paid internship position with the Data-Driven Policing Program, which is responsible for strategic and administrative analysis and criminal justice research. This position will aid in the Department's expansion and development of the department's crime and accountability meeting, SeaStat.

Educational Benefit to Student:

  • Law enforcement and government practice and processes.
  • Applied social science applications in the field of law enforcement.
  • Data systems, analysis, and presentations. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Data requests, reports, and presentations.
  • SOP training, development and documentation.

Educational Requirements:

  • Open to Graduate level students majoring in Statistics, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related Social Science field. Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Intern must be enrolled in accredited college courses, with a part-time or full-time course load leading to a graduate degree and maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout the internship.


  • Exposure to research methods and statistics.
  • Experience in data management and data visualization software.
  • Ability to create analytical reports, tables, and graphs.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s program candidate or Graduate School level work
  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, a related Social Science field, Criminal Justice, or Criminology is preferred
  • GIS software training
  • Experience with law enforcement data, databases, and research
  • Crime analysis training or certificate

Additional Information:

Start/End Dates: This internship will start 2017 Winter Term and end in Summer 2018. 

Hours: 20 hours during school and 20-40 hours during breaks. Work will be scheduled between 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.
