Official Position Description: Time: 10 to 13 hours a week (Work schedules set each quarter based on class schedules, availability, and work responsibilities) Reports to: Training & supervision provided by a Career & Internship Specialist, Career Services Pay: $16-$17 an hour GPA: Minimum 2.5 General Overview The Graduate Program Assistant (GPA) serves as a contact for graduate students and students exploring or applying to graduate school. This position will research and provide career resources for graduate students at UW Bothell, support Assistant Career Adviser responsibilities, be a liaison to the graduate academic advisors, assist with targeted program planning, and execute graduate student oriented events and series. Advising specifically focuses on professional development, the graduate school application processes and portfolio development and offering programming targeted at applying for graduate school. Purpose Help prospective graduate students become more confident about careers through responsible delivery of information and services Provide resources specific to graduate students Provide programming and events specific to graduate students Liaise with Graduate School Advisors to determine greatest need to customize resources and content for graduate student population Typical Duties and Responsibilities Greet students and visitors to the Student Success Center and identify ways in which they can be assisted Evaluate client needs, take appropriate action, and/or properly direct them to other related resources Meet with students one-on-one to provide career advising including HuskyJobs registration, relevant event information, resume/curriculum vitae critiques, mock interviews, cover letter construction, and job/internship/graduate program exploration by appointment Develop, market and assist with workshops targeted toward graduate students regarding professional development related topics, including networking, resume building, and interviewing Create and distribute event evaluation forms that will be compiled, reported out to graduate departments, and referred to for future programming Create resources for returning and non-traditional graduate students with professional and advanced backgrounds Represent Career Services at graduate orientations to inform incoming students of the types of services available Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop awareness of services meeting different programs’ needs, customization of presentation content to specific curriculum, career options, etc. Actively advertise positions relevant to the University of Washington Bothell student population through multiple channels (Career Services News, online, and in-house advertisement) Participate in and provide support for all Career Services sponsored events Maintain electronic appointment calendar, Outlook Contact Database, and Catalyst reports, and Career Services – Graduate Students website. Respond to phone/email inquiries from employers, faculty, and staff Other special projects as assigned, including providing general support for career counseling, career assessments, and event planning Initiate, plan and develop a Graduate Student Professional Development Series Collaborate with advisors and schools on content specific to audience Partner to market and advertise events Coordinate event/workshop logistics Identify and recruit presenters Draft and edit materials and content Create on-going resources Minimum Qualifications Strong customer service orientation Professional or personal interest in career/student development Excellent organization, written, and oral communication skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to use tact and diplomacy in working with students, alumni, employers, coworkers, supervisors, and staff/faculty in a friendly, courteous manner both face-to-face and on the telephone A successful candidate will demonstrate initiative with the ability to take ownership of projects and have exceptional follow through Minimum of 10 hours per week required Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred. Experience with Photoshop desired Must have and maintain a quarterly GPA of 2.5+ Academic year-long commitment preferred (summer-spring quarter).
