03/07/2017 Undergraduate Intern - Myler lab Center for Infectious Disease Research - Seattle, Washington The Center for Infectious Disease Research is looking for a Work Study Undergraduate Intern to the Seattle Structural Genomics Center for Infectious Disease (SSGCID) division of the Myler Lab. This student will perform biomedical support in a research laboratory setting. This includes working with scientific personnel and assisting all and/or specific research projects in infectious disease. Work will include training with chemicals and biological materials, as well as sterile and other general scientific techniques. Routine tasks include solution making, materials inventory, bacterial cell lysis, and some aspects of protein purification. Work on specific projects may include gel electrophoresis, DNA/Plasmid purification, culturing of bacteria, and database entry. Experience will help prepare students interested in careers related to the biosciences. The work schedule for this position will be based on the production goals of the lab and thus will require the Undergraduate Intern to be available primarily during Monday through Wednesday each week. The working hours are flexible and can accommodate course work and other scheduling requirements of the student. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program Basic molecular and microbiology knowledge; course and/or practical experience in biology and chemistry are desirable but not required. Experience with protein purification is not required but highly desired. This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule. Interns will be successful if they are able to dedicate 4-hour chunks (ideally 9am-1pm) or more during the week.
