Puget Sound Energy’s Customer Safety Communications Department is looking for a Public Awareness Program Manager to join our team. It’s the job of the public awareness program manager to make sure customers, fire fighters, police officers and public officials get the information they need to stay safe around natural gas and electricity. The ideal candidate should have skills in writing, public speaking, process administration, and customer service.


As our PAP manager, you’ll:

  • Ensure that we comply with the federal regulations that govern much of what and how we communicate about gas safety.
  • Be responsible for all aspects of annual mass mailings and/or emailings of safety information to customers, fire fighters, police and public officials.
  • Oversee and assist with the documentation and reporting of our compliance.
  • Speak to public groups, write for traditional and electronic communications, and respond to social media comments.
  • Resolve escalated customer complaints involving PSE’s cross bore program.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in applying a set of standards, rules or codes and tracking compliance with them.
  • Strong commitment to public safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to dive into a new body of knowledge and quickly achieve basic proficiency.
  • Excellent writer and presenter.
  • Detail oriented, with ability to manage multiple tasks to resolution simultaneously.
  • Ability to talk patiently with people who are upset or who disagree with you, keep your cool, and calmly get your point across.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the properties and hazards of natural gas.
  • Thorough understanding of the American Petroleum Institute’s Recommended Practice 1162, 1st Edition. This is the federal regulation governing pipeline safety public awareness. It is not available on the web, but is available upon request to anyone who applies for this position.
  • Knowledge of gas and electric utility rates, business objectives, to include operations, customer service, claims, and corporate relations.
  • Familiarity with using email marketing programs such as Constant Contact.
