Demand for accountants is extremely high as businesses work to plan, manage and control their operations. Graduates can serve as internal auditors, managerial accountants, tax examiners, budget analysts or government auditors. After completing this option, students are eligible to take the Certified Management Accounting (CMA) exam. If you want to be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a minimum of 225 quarter hours or five years of college is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n\n    <div class=\"responsive-embed widescreen\">\n        <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"UW Bothell School of Business - Max Poklonskii - Student Spotlight\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DJO9YLtTx2A?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>    <\/div>\n\n    \n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Requirements to declare the option<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students wanting to declare the Accounting option must meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must have completed all required prerequisite Accounting courses with a minimum grade of 2.5 in each course.<br> (*Note: Students in the process of completing a course will not be considered for the Accounting Option until the course has been completed.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must have earned a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average across all prerequisite Accounting courses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Students may NOT enroll in any Accounting courses until speaking to their advisor to determine whether they meet the requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accounting curriculum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Accounting Option students must complete the following courses for graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th>Course Type<\/th><th>Course Numbers &amp; Planning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BBUS 453 \u2013 Financial Institutions &amp; Markets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BBUS 454 \u2013 Investments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accounting certification preparation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After completing the two-year Accounting Option, students are eligible to take the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imanet.org\/IMA-Certifications\/CMA-Certification?psso=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exam<\/a>. Students who wish to become a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cpaboard.wa.gov\/individual-licensing\/education-requirements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Certified Public Accountant (CPA)<\/a>, however, should plan on spending three years in the program. To take the CPA exam, a student needs a minimum of 225 quarter hours or five years of college (a master degree is not required).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to public accounting, the Accounting Option will thoroughly prepare students for careers in private, government and non-profit accounting. The curriculum is designed to enable graduates to fill a number of corporate positions such as internal auditor, managerial accountant and tax accountant. Graduates will also be prepared to serve in government positions such as tax examiner, budget analyst and government auditor.
