Background

Leadership is a central challenge for today’s global corporations. Leaders of organizations around the world, face many of the same business problems. There is no one formula for effective leadership, aspiring leaders must learn to develop a clear, coherent and thoughtful leadership philosophy. One which inspires and motivates individuals from diverse backgrounds to work hard and deliver consistent returns. As future leaders of the business world, UW Bothell School of Business students must learn how to do business in a global market place.

Program Components

  • Approximately 20-30 students and a faculty advisor explore examine the key drivers of globalization and the major challenges that countries face as they respond to an increasingly globalized environment.
  • Trip preparation is a key component to all UW Bothell School of Business study trips. Several sessions are held prior to departure. The session topics include guest speakers and facilitated discussions of the economic status, political climate, history, culture and business etiquette of the host country.
  • Trips generally have a theme or particular focus.  Recent themes have included local NGOs, free-trade zones and social responsibility.

Overview: Visit the countries of Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia: three of the world's most diverse and vibrant economies and societies. Key activities will involve briefings from business executives and government officials, tours of manufacturing facilities, and visits to key cultural and historic sites.

Overview: Divided into three teams, students focused on trade, telecommunications and microfinance and how the Puget Sound region could create mutual benefit from a greater volume of commerce with Ghana.

Destinations: Thailand and Cambodia
Overview: Participants attended briefings by corporate executives and NGO community leaders, attended networking events with business executives,  made visits to manufacturing facilities and international institutions, and participated in various cultural activities.
