About the board
The expanded UW Bothell School of Business Dean’s Advisory Board provides strategic guidance, helps build external partnerships and deepens the school’s relationship with the business community. Spanning manufacturing, retail, aerospace, accounting, design, software, services, healthcare and consulting, volunteer board members bring their rich experience and broad expertise to bear on the advice they provide the school. We cannot thank them enough for their generous commitment and look forward to collaboratively building a great future for our students and the region.
Lisa Sharples - Former President
Lisa has been a senior manager in Internet companies since 1995 and held positions as SVP of Marketing, CMO, Chief Marketing and Merchandising Officer, Founder, Board Member and President. In her most recent position she served as President of Allrecipes.com.
Tom Sulewski - Director of Auditing
A CPA, Tom is the shareholder in charge of Clark Nuber’s audit and assurance department. His leadership, efficiency, project management skills and keen ability to present profit opportunities to small businesses make him an invaluable asset to his clients.
Dustin Birashk - Partner
Dustin has been in public accounting since 1999 and specializes in audits of financial institutions and financial services companies. Dustin is proficient with community banks, credit unions, de novo institutions, mutual banks and SEC banks.
David R. Carey - Executive Vice President
David R. Carey serves as Executive Vice President, Corporate Services and is responsible for leading the Enterprise Program Office, Corporate Communications, Corporate Real Estate, Corporate Responsibility, Corporate Security and a broad range of responsibilities in leading the Office of the CEO. Mr. Carey has also served in the same role with T-Mobile USA, Inc., the wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company (“T-Mobile USA”), since February 2013. Mr. Carey’s career spans 43 years in the telecom and energy services industry. Before joining T-Mobile USA, from October 2011 to February 2013, Mr. Carey served as Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Telescope Advisors, LLC, an advisory firm specializing in telecommunications. From September 1999 to October 2011, Mr. Carey served in various executive positions, including Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer, Head of Global Sales, Strategy and Corporate Development and Chief Ethics Officer at Global Crossing Limited, a telecommunications company. In addition to Global Crossing, his experience includes executive leadership positions at AT&T, LG&E Energy and Frontier Communications. Mr. Carey holds a Master of Science in Management Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was appointed to a Sloan Fellowship, and received his Bachelor of Science degree at Clarkson University. He has also attended executive programs at the Harvard Business School and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Yi Ping (Y.P.) Chan - Principal
Y.P. has over 20 years of experience in business turnaround & restructuring, entrepreneurship, investment, JV & acquisitions, and executive education in Greater China and the United States. He was the CEO of a small public US company. Y.P. obtained his MBA and MSEE degrees from Columbia University.
Kristie Duffin - Head of IT
Kristie Duffin is currently the Head of IT for BMGI, an investment management firm. Previously, she was head of global CRM at BlackRock. Kristie has held a number of technology leadership positions with financial companies managing both in-house software development as well as technology infrastructure. She is a graduate of the UW Foster School of Business with a BA and MBA.
Rich Fabian - President & COO
Rich Fabian joined FUJIFILM SonoSite in January, 2017, bringing more than 20 years of Healthcare leadership experience. As President and COO, Rich leads all functional areas of the Global SonoSite and Visual Sonics businesses. SonoSite created the first Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) system in 1998 and remains the strong market leader in the POCUS space.
Prior to joining SonoSite, Rich served with Philips Healthcare for 15 years where he held various executive leadership roles, including Vice President of Sales and Marketing for North America, Vice President and General Manager of a Global Business Unit and Vice President of Marketing for Imaging Systems. He built high performing teams that consistently delivered strong business results. He earned his MBA from the University of Pittsburgh’s Katz Graduate School of Business and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan.
A resident of Kirkland, WA, Rich and his wife, Suzette, have two daughters (Rebecca – 24 and Ashley – 22). In his spare time, Rich swims on a Masters Swim Team, competes in Sprint Triathlons and spends time with his family and friends.
Tom Goos - President & Co-Owner
A passionate entrepreneur and leader, Thomas Goos is the President and Co-Owner of Image Source, a nationally recognized branded merchandise agency. Thomas’ key responsibilities include strategic direction, overseeing daily operations and financials as well as major client relations and supplier partnerships. With 19+ years of branded merchandise experience, Thomas is a true industry leader and expert.
Thomas is a founder and partner of Reciprocity Road, an industry buying group comprised of eight elite branded merchandise agencies. He is a Past-Chairman of the board for the branded merchandise industry’s national trade association, Promotional Products Association International (PPAI). Thomas is a former two-term President of the Northwest Promotional Marketing Association (NWPMA), a regional industry association. He was recognized by the Puget Sound Business Journal’s award program, 40 Under Forty. Thomas is an industry thought leader who is regularly featured in promotional products media and magazines.
Thomas has a B.A. in Marketing and Management from the University of Washington Bothell. He is a passionate endurance athlete who competes in triathlon, duathlon as well as cycling and running events. Thomas has competed in several national championships in both triathlon and duathlon and recently qualified as a member of Team USA for the Duathlon World Championships in Denmark in 2018. Thomas’ passion for real estate and cars is only rivaled by his tenacity for any competitive game or sport.
Tanya Fraioli - Founder & CEO
Ms. Tanya Fraioli is an entrepreneur, business consultant, executive and community leader. She is the founder, co-owner and CEO of a high-end Italian restaurant, Vivi, located in Woodinville, WA. She is the founder and President of RocketFix, a consulting company that specializes in business turnarounds, salesforce management, and mergers and acquisitions. She previously served as Regional Vice President, American Reprographics Company. Ms. Fraioli is a past winner of the Washington State SBA Person of the Year. She serves and has taken leadership roles on several regional boards including the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, Seattle Chamber of Commerce, Seattle International District BIA and Eastside Catholic.
Tony Gepner - Director, Management Consulting
Tony Gepner is the Director of Management Consulting for the CORTAC Group, overseeing all consulting services for clients in the Seattle area/western US. His expertise is in leadership, process reengineering, and program management. He is a certified Lean /Six Sigma Blackbelt, and most importantly, an alumni of the UW Bothell MBA program (2005).

Dr. Satbir Khanuja - Co-Founder, President & CEO
Dr. Satbir Khanuja obtained his B.Tech from IIT Bombay, and a PhD in Ceramics Engineering from MIT. He is the Co-Founder and the current President and CEO of DataSphere Technologies. He previously served as SecondSpace's senior vice president of marketing and business development, responsible for the company's partnership, traffic-building and revenue-generating initiatives. Prior to that, he played various executive roles at Amazon.com responsible for driving billions of dollars in sales through free and paid traffic to all Amazon.com websites worldwide. Previously, he was vice president and general manager of Amazon.com's IMDb.com and In-Theater businesses, where he created all business functions and built the division into one of the 50 most-trafficked websites in the world. Satbir started his business career as an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company. He is a member of the board of directors of Digi International.
Julie Kouhia - CEO

Julie Kouhia leads Molbak’s, the premium garden center based in Woodinville, WA. Prior to this role, she served as COO, Mobalk’s and held leadership roles at Starbucks and Amazon.com. She brings a customer-centric leadership style with a focus on improving profitability through a focus on managing competition, developing effective new partnerships and by growing/strengthening customer relationships. She holds an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, a MA from University of Washington and a BA from Washington State University. She is active in many professional and community organizations including the Woodinville Chamber Board of Directors, Garden Center Magazine Advisory Board and is a member of Vistage International for CEOs. A native of Washington, Julie is an avid walker and enjoys Pilates.
Jay Maloney - President

Jay Maloney is President of Maloney Aerospace Advisors, where offerings include advising airlines, MROs, OEMs and adjacent industries (e.g., marine, space, oil/gas) on development and implementation of strategic and tactical solutions.
Jay spent 17 years at Boeing becoming a seasoned executive. He was instrumental in architecting new program offerings and new services platforms providing leadership and oversight of integrated teams consisting of sales, contracts, legal, marketing and supplier management. He is a deliberative and strategic leader proficient at people and project management, and adept at issue resolution and solution approaches. Jay is accomplished at applying statistics and data to innovative approaches with a strong commitment to achieving organizational goals. He is focused on budgetary efficiencies, team dynamics, scalability and operational success. Jay has a proven track record in helping ensure strategic elements are understood and accepted by key stakeholders resulting in successfully integrating complex operational and business models with customers and internal stakeholders.
Jay has over 30 years of aerospace experience, beginning his career as an aerospace instructor on electrical systems, before accepting a position at Continental Airlines in Pilot Training. His career then took him to the Pacific Northwest working for Alaska Airlines, where he rose to the position of Director of Engineering. During his 17 years at Boeing he rose to the position of Vice President. He retired to start his own consulting business in 2017. As a consultant, Jay enjoys applying his expertise to help organizations improve operational performance and achieve their business goals.

Pritam Parvatkar - Sr. Vice President & Business Head - Pacific Northwest; USA Global Head - Strategic Technology Business
Pritam is the business head of the Pacific Northwest region with P&L responsibility and is the global head of the Strategic Technology Business for the company. He is currently focused on transformational growth trajectory for the company in our region. Prior to joining Tech Mahindra, he has held leadership roles in Cable & Wireless, Tata Teleservices and Data Access - PCCW. He earned a bachelor's degree in engineering in Computer Science from University of Pune, Masters in Marketing Management from University of Pune and a program for leadership and management from Indian Institute of Management - Calcutta (IIM-C). Pritam is devoted to diversity and inclusion with a particular interest in supporting women leaders in technology. He serves on the advisory board of several educational institutions in India.
Britt Provost - Executive Vice President of People and Culture
Britt is the Executive Vice President of People and Culture for Apptio, a public software-as-a-service leader in technology business management (TBM). She is responsible for leading the Human Resources function, coaching executives and managers to become more effective leaders and fostering Apptio's high performing culture.
Prior to joining Apptio, Britt held progressive HR leadership positions at fast-paced technology companies including Avanade, Real Networks and Microsoft. She has over 15 years of experience leading HR teams in all aspects of the function, across a number of business sectors.
Britt is actively involved as a speaker and facilitator on a number of topics including: leadership development, negotiation, women in leadership, employee engagement and career development topics. Britt holds a BA from the University of Washington and a MBA from University of Colorado.
Gavriella Schuster is a C-level Microsoft leader who has grown a P&L to $6.5B and currently leads their global portfolio of channel partners that reached $1 trillion in ecosystem revenues. With 20+ years of leadership expertise in digital and cloud transformation roles, her strategy and execution expertise spans all aspects of business model and product development, launch, marketing, sales and partner development. She leads the global recruitment, enablement and engagement of Microsoft’s fast-growing partner ecosystem. Tay Yoshitani - Former CEO

Tay Yoshitani served as the Chief Executive Officer for the Port of Seattle, which owns over $6 billion in assets and operates the Seaport, SeaTac International Airport and a real estate portfolio, from March 2007 through October 2014. Prior to this role, he was Senior Advisor for the National Association of Waterfront Employers in Washington DC for 2 years. His 26 years in the maritime port industry includes serving as Executive Director of the Port of Oakland, Executive Director of the Port of Baltimore and the Deputy Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles. During 2014, he served as Chairman of the Board for the American Association of Port Authorities. Prior to entering the port industry, Tay served in leadership roles in finance, operations and strategic planning at Grand American, Avery International and Castle & Cooke.
Tay is a member of the corporate board of directors at Expeditors International, a global logistics company, and Port Blakely, a privately-held forestry company. In addition, he is on the board of the Eno Center for Transportation, a think tank for public policy on transportation. He is a past Chairman of the Japan America Society of Washington state and has also served on the board of numerous other non-profit organizations, including the Seattle Foundation and YMCA of Eastside in the Bay Area.
Tay is currently a Principal at Integrated Zero Waste, a consulting company engaged in waste-to-energy projects. He is also owner of an expanding restaurant group called Hurry Curry of Tokyo, which has operations in Los Angeles, Seattle and Bellevue.
Tay graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the US Military Academy at West Point. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers for five years, including a tour in Vietnam, and resigned as a Captain. He earned his MBA at the Harvard Graduate School of Business.
Katie Young - VP, Urban Market Operations
She currently leads the integrated operations and strategy for Starbucks’ complex urban markets. She ran the $2B+ food P&L for several years then launched the food innovation team. Katie Young is vice president of urban market operations at Starbucks. She joined Starbucks in 2012 as a director of Food Strategy.
Prior to Starbucks, Katie worked at McKinsey & Company, specializing in the social sector, CPG, and agribusiness. She was part of the team that developed the first-ever agriculture strategy for the Gates Foundation. Other strategy work included: food security for 16 countries and creating transformational frontline change for the Ethiopian Government’s 60,000 extension agents. Katie holds a Masters in Public Policy (MPP, International Development) from the University of Chicago and a Bachelors in Spanish and Honors Political Science from Kenyon College.

Rusdi Kirana is the Co-founder and Chairman of Lion Air, Indonesia’s largest private airline. Rusdi founded the company in 2000 with his brother. Kirana is a native of Indonesia. He is the father of three, including a daughter who is a student at UW Bothell.
