Students admitted to the Biology major, Biology or Neuroscience minors can meet with academic advisor, Chris Shaeffer, for educational assistance in a variety of areas, including course planning, locating campus resources, navigating university policies and procedures, and preparing for life after graduation.

In-person appointments

If you have scheduled an in-person appointment, check in at the School of STEM Undergraduate Academic Services front desk in Discovery Hall 352, across from the elevators.

Online appointments and drop-in advising

If you have scheduled an online appointment, visit the link below at your appointment time to enter the Zoom waiting room for your appointment, and we will be with you shortly!

We have regular online drop-in times for quick questions. Visit the link below at the times listed and we will be with you as soon as we can. Please be aware that we might not be available some weeks due to illness, other responsibilities, holidays, or a large number of people in the waiting room.

  • Mondays & Tuesdays: 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM
  • Wednesdays: No drop-ins
  • Thursdays & Fridays: 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Saturdays & Sundays: No drop-ins

Appointments times are only visible for up to two weeks in advance. If you do not see any availability, please check the Navigate page early on a weekday morning to see new availability for two weeks in the future. If you just have a quick question, you can email us at sciadv@uw.edu

Scheduling for prospective students

We primarily work with students who have already been admitted to the Biology major. If you have not yet been admitted, please follow the instructions below.

UW Bothell pre-major students

Pre-major students can contact an FYPP (First Year and Pre-Major Program) advisor for help planning their coursework and getting ready to apply.

High school and transfer students

Students from high schools or other institutions (including UW Seattle or UW Tacoma) can contact a transfer advisor for help with planning their coursework and getting ready to apply.

Students in other UW Majors

Students who have already been admitted to another major at UW Bothell that want to apply can contact the School of STEM advising office at stemadv@uw.edu for help scheduling an appointment.

Biology, Marine Biology, or Neuroscience Minors

If you have completed the prerequisites for the Biology, Marine Biology, or Neuroscience minor, contact your major advisor to declare your minor!

Tutoring and academic coaching

Coding and math

The CSS Division provides tutors each quarter for both specific classes and general help. Visit the QSC (Quantitative Skills Center) for more information!

Writing

If you need help with your personal statement for admission, CSS 301 (Technical Writing), or any other writing-related work, visit the WaCC (Writing and Communication Center)!

Living and learning strategies

 UW Bothell's Academic success coaches work with students in improving their communication with professors, time management, learning strategies, goal setting and motivation, note-taking, and test-taking skills.
