Retailing is one of the most important industries in the Northwest. Many prominent national retailers are headquartered here (e.g., Costco, Starbucks, Union Bay, Eddie Bauer, REI, Zumiez, Nordstrom, and Sur la Table), including several who are retail technology leaders (e.g., Amazon, Coinstar, and Microsoft Stores). Engagement with this key industry through the retail management concentration or minor (for non-business students) prepares students to become leaders in the retail industry. Retail management students will develop an in-depth knowledge of important topics such as retail analytics, merchandise acquisition, retail marketing, supply chain management, retail operations, retail technology, and leadership. They will gain the ability to utilize social media and networks to increase customer loyalty and understand how to use multi-channel approaches to drive revenue. During the program students will also have the opportunity to engage in several real-world consulting projects with area retailers and interact with key executives and thought leaders from the industry.
