A New Hand for Reese

Screenshot-(56).pngUW Bothell’s commitment to undergraduate research empowers students to explore and tackle real world problems. UW Bothell Mechanical Engineering students Michael Meier and Adham Baioumy designed and created a 3D printed prosthetic hand for 10-year-old Reese Armstrong, who was born with three fingers on her left hand. In the video below, Michael and Adham, who graduated in 2019, describe how completing this challenging multi-year project impacted them.

Reese’s father, Brian Armstrong, and his family are overwhelmed with gratitude for the UW Bothell donors who support this kind of undergraduate student research. Learn more about their story in the 2018 Annual Impact Report.

Our gratitude for the supporters of this fund is immeasurable. Over $70,000 has been invested in the endowed fund, providing a permanent source of funding for future generations who wish to follow in Anna’s footsteps by traveling abroad.

Fundraising efforts for the Anna Bui World of Hope Scholarship Fund are ongoing, and we look forward to continue sharing updates on events, announcements, and student beneficiaries. Thank you again for your dedication and commitment to providing students with once in a lifetime educational opportunities.

August 2nd, 2018 marked the second annual Anna Bui World of Hope Scholarship fundraiser. The incredible generosity from community members resulted in more than $50,000 raised to support UW Bothell students that will carry on Anna's legacy as they travel and study abroad. Anna’s aspirations to become a global citizen inspired us, and we thank you for assuring that future students will follow in her footsteps. Please enjoy these photos from the event.

Saba Moghim, the first scholarship recipient, shares her thanks for all who have supported this endowment. As she mentions in her video message – YOU are helping make dreams come true!

We also would like to extend a special thanks to the World of Hope Planning Committee members, the City of Mukilteo, Mark Wright, King 5 News and the many generous community partners that helped us make this event possible. We are looking forward to updating you all on the students who are benefiting from the Anna Bui World of Hope Scholarship.
