Yes, life throws you the unexpected, and of course resilience is something to be applauded, and resilience phrasing can be inspirational, and so on. But, for those who need to be resilient to deal with today and move towards tomorrow, it is exhausting \u2014 and that reality isn\u2019t often discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I offer this reflection recognizing that at any point in time, there will be members of our community who are uncertain about what lies ahead, what it means for them, how resilient they may need to be and how much more they can handle. Let\u2019s acknowledge how exhausting that is even as we are grateful for the efforts of so many to support our community through the unexpected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This newsletter includes key updates from this fall quarter regarding the Division of Academic Affairs. While our five schools are the core of our division, this newsletter focuses on central services that support our academic core. Main updates are organized by faculty and students along with other key highlights. Jones, Ph.D., VCAA<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cross-disciplinary<br>Connected Learning<br>Community Engagement<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In Case You Missed It<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-purple-300-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5e5f42ec4a1a586d9aa28775bf99657a\">Leadership Searches<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The search committee for the next Dean of&nbsp;<a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/we.discover.uw.edu\/NTI3LUFIUi0yNjUAAAGVmyxmueEwlOjXClS7DPy1KpxruRRek7uWxofJh2X_apmoQyrAuG_XUFfVWX84q65vPYNyfsM=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>UW Bothell\u2019s School of STEM<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;brought in three finalists to meet with the campus community in late October. An announcement on the appointment will be made shortly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We are close to finalizing our search for a senior research scientist to serve as the director for the&nbsp;<strong><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/research\/facilities\/cosee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Collaborative for Socio-Ecological Engagement (CoSEE)<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;for a five-year term. An email announcement will be sent out soon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Late last spring, the&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Faculty Senate<\/strong>&nbsp;approved legislation that expanded candidates\u2019 rights in the promotion process and resulted in changes to&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/we.discover.uw.edu\/NTI3LUFIUi0yNjUAAAGWF5JrJxwvm9vd4zQRbCrw4qudKIZTIVSVA3RbpXv9MPV5XXe4FriNYI-flEMoFZgKT5k2-Fk=\" target=\"_blank\" id=\"\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chapter 24-54 Procedures for Promotion<\/a>&nbsp;of the UW Faculty Code. Updated resources, including a timeline, can be found on the&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/we.discover.uw.edu\/NTI3LUFIUi0yNjUAAAGWF5JrJ2XMDbrh1TCWeBE1qPCFi-O_HL59kzm6WfUMD4PiTOfBQwUTYishR01c0VhwONGhDmc=\" target=\"_blank\" id=\"\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Faculty HR SharePoint site<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The FY26 Annual Resource Planning<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;process has started. Starting this year, all UW campuses will align planning for academic year 2025-26 faculty hiring within the FY26 budget development process. There are some key upcoming dates to be mindful of, so please see the important dates section below for more details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/academic-affairs\/councils\/vcaa-leadership-council\" target=\"_blank\" id=\"\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vice Chancellor&#8217;s Leadership Council<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;autumn quarter updates.&nbsp;The VLC, which is comprised of the campus deans and leadership of the central academic units, received updates and deliberated on the following matters:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>VLC purpose and team strengthening<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Summer session net revenue calculations and distributions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carnegie Community Engagement reclassification process<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UW Bothell International student recruitment pilot<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>FY25 budgets, shortfalls, and prioritization process for the central academic units<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fundraising goals for the central academic units<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UW changes regarding additional compensation for faculty (EO 59)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Process changes for P&amp;T based on the new Senate legislation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Feedback to the provost on the tri-campus structure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Feedback to the division on enrollment management on a merit aid proposal for graduate students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proposal from EAB to aid graduate program recruitment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On Wednesday, Nov. 13, almost 400 supporters of UW Bothell \u2014 including alumni, community members, champions and partners \u2014 came together at the Bellevue Westin for a special fundraising event: the&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/give\/iheartuwb\" target=\"_blank\" id=\"\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">I \u2764\ufe0f UW Bothell Luncheon<\/a>. The event was a celebration of our unique campus and the impact of our inspiring students.
