Thank you for agreeing to serve on the search committee to identify our first Assistant Vice Chancellor for Connected Learning (AVCCL) at UW Bothell. The search will be limited to internal candidates at the University of Washington.
As envisioned, the AVCCL is charged with sustaining a coherent vision for connected learning, coordinating strategic and effective policies that support this vision, and implementing best practices in partnership with the Deans, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Success (AVCSS), the Offices of Advancement, Student Affairs, and Institutional Research, and other institutional leaders. The AVCCL will report directly to the VCAA and contribute as a member of the leadership team that advises the VCAA on campus-wide academic strategy and policy. The AVCCL will use an intentional and integrated approach to provide a portfolio of high-impact student experiences that connect classroom learning with experiential learning, with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.
I ask that you approach this process in an intentionally inclusive manner that actively engages the campus community. I ask also that you seek a pool of internal UW candidates that reflects UW Bothell’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Please consider the following throughout the search:
- What are the key opportunities for the AVCCL, as both a partner and a leader, to impact the changing higher education environment in terms of connected learning?
The position description, which is attached to this email, will be shared with our campus starting the week of April 27 with a deadline for applications of May 25. I ask that you recommend one to three candidates to invite for an interview with the committee, along with interviews with me and the Chancellor. You may include other aspects of the evaluation process including a public presentation and/or key stakeholder interviews with the goal of benefitting from multiple feedback perspectives. I appreciate receiving these recommendations by June 1 to allow for campus visits immediately after. After considering feedback throughout the process, I look forward to receiving a summary from you about the strengths and weaknesses in terms of this position for each of the finalists by the end of June 2020. With this committee feedback, I will be able to make an informed decision.
Thank you very much for your service in this important process to select a critical academic leader.
All the best,
Sharon A. Jones
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
