Writing Center

Becky Rosenberg, Director

Becky Rosenberg

I have been at UW Bothell since 1998, directing the Writing Center, teaching my own courses, consulting with faculty about their teaching, doing classroom writing workshops and conferencing with students. I delight in the opportunity to work with students and faculty across all of UW Bothell's academic programs and in a wide range of arenas. I am also working on campus efforts to expand the support services this campus offers to both students and faculty in my role as Director of the UW Bothell Teaching and Learning Center—including initiatives to expand support for presentation, service learning and undergraduate research.

I earned my PhD in History at the University of Michigan—not the obvious preparation for directing the UW Bothell Writing Center. My training in writing instruction, however, came from a sixteen-year association with Michigan's English Composition Board, one of the country's pioneer university-wide writing centers. The ECB's student-centered and writing-centered approach to teaching and learning fit well with my own pedagogy. I "apprenticed" to faculty on the cutting edge of composition studies, working in large-scale writing assessment, developing computer-assisted instruction, collaborative learning, writing in the disciplines and one-on-one conferencing.
