Major: Community Psychology
For me, writing is quite similar to learning a second language. Both require tremendous effort and patience. I am familiar with this process all too well. Growing up in Russia, I never imagined that the English language would become a fundamental part of my daily life. While I have had over ten years to master the English language and develop my writing skills, I can certainly understand the frustrations of most ESL students. A new language is paired with unfamiliar writing techniques and guidelines which can be overwhelming and difficult to understand.
Still, producing a well written paper, just like learning a language, is possible for anyone. Whether writing a reflective piece or a twelve page research paper, I truly enjoy each step of the writing process from the outline to the final revisions. While attending University of Washington Bothell, I have had the opportunity to develop myself as a writer in social sciences as well as hard sciences. I am currently studying Community Psychology at the UW Bothell campus. In addition to pursuing my degree, I am finishing up my prerequisites for dental school. My areas of strength include thesis development, research papers, personal statements and lab reports.
As a writing consultant, I hope to provide a collaborative and comfortable environment where students discover their strengths. Whether you’re perplexed by citing guidelines or struggling to begin a paper, come see us at the UWB writing center because we can help with that!
