Meet Our Team:
"My name is Kira Newman, and I’m the Assistant Director of the Student Success Center. I have worked at the University of Washington (Seattle and Bothell campuses) for 5 years, after earning my Master’s Degree at Miami University (OH) in Student Affairs in Higher Education, and my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Sonoma State University. I spend most of my time with my beautiful wife, working on house projects (never ending), and going on walks to explore new places. I also love all things fitness, I love to bake, read (especially non-fiction), and am known to spend way too much time watching any and all things sports. The Student Success Center is all about learning, and I love helping students think about their education less as a formal degree, and more about developing their love of learning. I would encourage all students to try new things, and challenge themselves to step outside of their comfort zone—that’s where the most significant learning happens!"
"Hi, I’m Anna! I work in the Student Success Center and plan events for Global Initiatives, Undergraduate Research, CBLR and of course the SSC! I coordinate logistics/marketing for each department’s large scale events like fairs, receptions, conferences and also anything in between! I have worked at the SSC for one year, and I went to Gonzaga University! I am a positive, easy-going outdoorsy gal, who’s
usually planning the next weekend’s adventure!"
Who We Are:
We are a community of learners, comprised of Professional and Student staff. Staff in the SSC serve UW Bothell Students by connecting them to answers, programs, resources, and support across campus to enhance students' learning.
What We Do:
SSC staff are trained to use powerful questions to help students move through their own learning processes regarding identifying personal strengths, the direction of major and career paths, working through personal challenges, and taking advantage of opportunities for high impact learning such as Study Abroad, Undergraduate Research and Creative Practice, Community Based Learning and Research, and internships. In addition to these high impact practices, the SSC houses Pre-Major Advising, Career Services, Merit Scholarships, Disability Resources for Students (DRS), and Veterans' Services.
Committed to access, equity, and success, the SSC collaborates with campus partners in the Counseling Center, Writing and Communication Center, Quantitative Skills Center, the library, the IDEA Project (Identity, Dialogue, Expression, Action).
