Financial Aid

Application Steps

1. FAFSA priority filing deadline.

The University of Washington Bothell has a priority deadline of February 28th each year. This means that the FAFSA must be received by the Federal Processor on or before February 28th. Please note that even an electronic submission may take 2-5 days to reach the Federal Processor.

2. Apply for a PIN

Request a PIN by visiting www.pin.ed.gov. If you are a dependent student, your parents should also request a PIN as they will need to sign your FAFSA as well.

3. Gather Financial Information

Gather income and assets information, tax returns, etc. for the year preceding the FAFSA award year. For example, if you are filling out the FAFSA for the 2007-2008 academic year, then you will need information that will go on your 2006 income taxes and the UW must be listed as a school to receive your FAFSA information.

4. Submit FAFSA

Go to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ to complete your FAFSA online. Make sure that you electronically sign your application with your PIN. If you are dependent student, make sure that one of your parents sign with their PIN as well.

5. Student Aid Report

You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the government when your application has been processed. Please note that receipt of a SAR does not mean that the University of Washington has received your FAFSA. Once processed, it can take 10-14 days for your application to be received by the University of Washington. You will receive an e-mail or a computer generated notification via U.S. mail notifying you when we have received your FAFSA.

6. Award Package

The UW Financial Aid and Scholarship Manager will create an award package and you will be notified of your eligibility. Your aid package is based on your enrollment status, information on your FAFSA and your "Expected Family Contribution" (EFC).
