The Activities & Recreation Center (ARC) is hiring for the 2023-2024 academic year. The ARC is the hub of student life on campus, a place for students to gather, socialize, dine, and exercise. The ARC is hiring Cascadia College and the University of Washington Bothell students to join our team.

ARC AV Tech: AV techs perform an independent role within the Activities and Recreation Center, utilizing technical skills, customer service, and knowledge of the Activities and Recreation center facility. ARC AV Tech’s are assigned to specific events in the ARC and serve as the main point of contact for patrons during events. Students in this position must make responsible decisions regarding events with little supervision while working in complex technical and logistical environments.

Position Purpose: The ARC Building Manager is an integral part of the ARC department and will work with the Assistant Director and other Professional Staff to assist in the daily management of the facility operations and program areas within the ARC. ARC Building Managers will provide leadership, professionalism, and service to all students and staff to support the mission and values of the ARC and institutions. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of the ARC, the Building Manager is an essential part of the team that ensures ARC patrons and student staff follow policies and procedures. The Building Manager is responsible for safety and security within the building and acts as a mentor and leader to other ARC student employees.

Fitness Center Attendants are primarily responsible for providing a clean and safe workout environment for participants in the Fitness Center. Fitness Center Attendants will create an inclusive, welcoming, and safe environment for patrons and ensure patrons are following all policies. They will be trained in CPR/AED and First Aid and work closely with Fitness Instructors as well as the Fitness Center Info Desk. Open to Cascadia and UW Bothell students.


ARC Programs

Group Fitness Instructor

Group Fitness Instructors plan, lead, and facilitate group fitness classes for the Activities & Recreation Center. Group Fitness Instructors create an inclusive and welcoming environment and work with participants to meet all needs and abilities within the class. All instructors will be trained in CPR/AED and First aid and are trained to teach various classes such as Core Conditioning, Dance, High Intensity Interval Training, Indoor Cycling, Lower Body, Upper Body Strength, Yoga, and/or Zumba. Instructors will have the opportunity to learn and get certified in other formats. Applicants do not need to have prior teaching experience. Previous attendance in ARC Group Fitness classes is preferred but not required. Open to UW Bothell and Cascadia College students.

Position Description: Group Fitness Instructors are responsible for leading and delivering group fitness instruction ranging in variety and level from aerobic activity, muscular strength, stretch, dance, or yoga.

Position Purpose: Within the department of the Activities & Recreation Center, the Group Fitness Instructor will be responsible for conducting effective group fitness classes, educating patrons on basic fitness knowledge, and maintaining a safe & enjoyable workout environment for participants.

Intramural Staff

Intramural Staff oversee the Intramural Sports program by supervising and officiating (refereeing) all organized sports and activities. No officiating experience needed. They participate in officiating a variety of sports, leading captains’ meetings, program promotions, and peer evaluations. They are responsible for on-site risk management, enforcement of all departmental policies, and provide on-going constructive feedback for participant and program improvement. Staff must be able to implement policies and playing rules in order to maintain an appropriate level of control, fairness and safety.

Outdoor Wellness Leaders (OWLs)

Overview:

Outdoor Wellness Leaders fill a vital leadership on campus. Leaders develop, market, co-lead, and facilitate day and overnight outdoor adventures, such as canoeing, rock climbing, hiking, camping, etc. Leaders will receive significant training on wilderness skills, outdoor activity instruction, risk management, and environmental practices in order to reduce risks while in the field. All Outdoor Wellness Leaders will be trained in CPR/AED, First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, and attend other outdoor education trainings as needed. Outdoor Wellness Leaders may also receive funding to further advance their own development in something related to the program.

Being an Outdoor Wellness Leader requires a time commitment of a full academic year. That time is used to plan and market outdoor adventures and work with outdoor equipment in the Nest Gear Shop.

Responsibilities:

Maintain a minimum 6-10+ hours of work a week during the academic year, Attend Fall training retreat, and additional trainings/development sessions (at least 1 per quarter, dates mandatory), Attend weekly team meetings, Coordinate with the Program Manger to assess and improve outdoor education programs for the campus, Participate in required outdoor leadership training including CPR/AED/First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, and other outdoor education trainings, Actively seek input from the student body in order to determine the type of events that they will plan throughout the year, Research current trends in outdoor education, Evaluate data collected from the current student body to inform outdoor programs, Create and evaluate attendee Learning Objectives for each schedule event/program, Facilitate the programming of activities of a diverse nature to entertain and educate students, staff, faculty, and the campus community Program events that appeal to a wide array of ages, gender, ethnicity, and interests, Advertise events to reach students/ staff/ faculty/ community etc. as appropriate, Track budget and archive information for each event, Complete appropriate forms for leading an outdoor trip, Co-sponsor with groups within the campus community, Satisfy requirements for driving University/College vehicles during outdoor adventures

Assistant Career Advisers (ACA)

Each Assistant Career Adviser (ACA) serves as a primary contact for students using Career Services by providing career advising to UW Bothell peers and assisting with program planning, marketing, and implementation. To keep up with the growing demand for connecting students to jobs, internships, and other professional growth opportunities, we rely on these student employees to do the majority of the resume review, cover letter review, LinkedIn review, and mock interview appointments. ACAs also assist in classroom presentations, workshops, and events held throughout the year, such as our Career Fairs. UW Bothell Students and Work Study eligible.

The Student Outreach Coordinator – Social Media & Academic Clubs (SOC) will work with the Employer Relations Team to increase connections between student organizations and Career Services. The SOC will be responsible for managing the Career Services Instagram page, supporting and marketing career events, and providing guidance to academic clubs in planning career-related events. This includes creating, monitoring and recording content and performance of the Career Services Instagram page; connecting clubs to employer and Career Services resources for events; and supporting career fairs, information sessions, and on-campus recruiting to give students as many touch-points with employers as possible.

The Student Outreach Coordinator – Diversity Initiatives (SOC) will work with the Employer Relations Team to increase connections between student organizations and employers. The SOC will be responsible for assisting Career Services in understanding the career-related diversity needs of student clubs. This includes working directly with diversity clubs and more broadly with student clubs interested in career-related diversity topics; providing guidance to student organizations in planning career-related events; assisting employers in making connections with diversity student clubs; and supporting career fairs, information sessions, and on-campus recruiting to give students as many touch-points with employers as possible. This position will also assist in creating content for Instagram, as well as, marketing Career Services events to all students.


Campus Library

Campus Library Student Technology Consultant

Under the general supervision of Library Technology Services staff, assist patrons using the Library’s computers to access online resources, and complete academic work. (i.e: word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications, printing, scanning, and web browsers). Assist in the maintenance of the Library’s computer workstations in the Information Commons, classrooms, and study spaces. Provide technical support in-person, online, and via telephone for on and off-campus access to UW Libraries resources. Circulate library materials, assist in the maintenance of circulated laptops, and other duties as assigned. Adhere to mandated safety guidelines, including frequent cleaning of equipment using institutionally approved cleaners and disinfectants. This position works closely with other Library staff to provide services in support of both UW Bothell and Cascadia student’s research, writing, and presentation needs.

Campus Library Student Circulation Assistant

Under the supervision of the Circulation Supervisors and leadership of the Access Services Manager, provide equitable, quality, user-centered service to members of a diverse campus community and to the public at the library’s Information Desk. Shelves, retrieves, shifts, and searches for library materials. Performs routine office support functions. Assists with special projects.


Diversity Center

BIPOC Student Advocacy Coordinator

The BIPOC Student Advocacy Resource Coordinator will be responsible for creating resource materials, coordinating with community partner organizations, focused on supporting the needs of BIPOC students. Creating print and digital materials, social media posts, and coordinating training from community partners organizations. This position will work directly with student clubs, UWB staff and faculty, and community partner organizations. The BIPOC Student Advocacy Resources Coordinator’s work is centered in creating accessible and supportive programing to reflect, engage, and support BIPOC, LGBTQ, Undocumented and low income students on campus.

The Communications Coordinator, in pair with the Media Design coordinator, is responsible for the media and communications of the Diversity Center. Creating the content, messaging, and ways students engage with the diversity center via social media, print and email. The Communications Coordinator work is centered in creating accessible means of connection between BIPOC, LGBTQ, Undocumented and low income students on campus.

Intercultural Community Coordinators

The ICCs are a programming body under the Diversity Center that focus on intimate events and community conversation centered programming. The identity focus of the ICCs is to support international & domestic students, as well as students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, first generation, undocu students, and more. Their main foci are to be the Student Diversity Center programming body, facilitate community building events and content creation, and have the ability to support and advocate for multiple marginalized identities here at UWB.

LGBTQIA+ Student Advocacy Coordinator

This position will focus on LGBTQIA+ student needs, resources and help with LGBTQIA+ student support programs through the Diversity Center. The LGBTQIA+ Student Advocacy Coordinator will be responsible for creating long lasting relationships, supports, and programs for LGBTQIA+ student communities on campus. Creating advocacy resources materials based on the specific needs of Trans & GNC students, survivors, mental health wellness. The LGBTQIA+ Student Advocacy Coordinator will work directly with the Undocumented and LGBTQIA+ Program Manager, clubs, and students directly.

The Media Design Coordinator, in pair with the Communications Coordinator, is responsible for the media and communications of the Diversity Center. The Media and Design Coordinator is responsible for creating the images, templates and media shared from the Diversity Center. This position will create the media as a part of the print materials, digital materials, powerpoint presentations, and posters. The Media Design Coordinator’s work is centered in creating accessible and supportive images and design to reflect and engage BIPOC, LGBTQ, Undocumented and low income students on campus.

The Student Diversity Center has rebranded the Peer Navigator position to the Peer Educator position. With the new name comes responsibilities different than what we have posted in the past. The Student Diversity Center Peer Educator will support the work of the center and fellow students in numerous ways such as being the first point of contact for students and others seeking assistance from the center, take lead and be part of campus and DC initiatives, serve as in-house and campus facilitators for various equity topics, and provide peer mentorship to a student over the Spring and Winter quarter.

Undocumented Student Resources Coordinator

This position will focus on the resources and supports needed for Undocumented students that the Diversity Center can provide. The Undocumented Student Resources Coordinator will be responsible for creating print and digital resource materials accessible from the Diversity center website, and resource events for Undocumented students. The Undocumented Student Resources Coordinator will work directly with Husky Dream Team and community partner organizations to create accessible resources. The Undocumented Student Resources Coordinator will serve as the first point of contact for students and others seeking assistance from the center.

DRS recognizes disability as an aspect of diversity that is integral to society and to our campus community, and we facilitate access to a quality higher education experience for students with disabilities. This position supports the DRS office and alternative testing center by responding to questions and aiding communication between students and faculty, assisting students and faculty to navigate UW’s myDRS online system, maintaining a busy scheduling calendar, proctoring exams, and ensuring excellent customer service and efficient administrative function in a fast-paced office environment. This position requires an ability to work both independently and as a part of a team, capacity to remain calm and compassionate while enforcing policies, and flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing conditions. Health and Wellness Resource Center

Health Educators Reaching Out (HEROs)

The Health and Wellness Resource Center (HaWRC) is hiring four students to join our peer health educator team in Fall 2023. This position is open to both Cascadia and UW Bothell students.

Health Educators Reaching Out (HEROs) fill a vital leadership role as peer health educators for the UW Bothell and Cascadia College campus. The HEROs are trained Certified Peer Educators who conduct health promotion and prevention activities that address sexual health, interpersonal violence, emotional wellbeing, and other priority health needs of the campus.

The position will be different this year than in previous years – we are looking to have 2 HEROs who will specialize in providing mental health education, and 2 HEROs who will specialize in providing sexual health education. The 4 HEROs will collaborate as a team on other projects and topics throughout the year.

HEROs will contribute to social change work in support of the HaWRC’s vision to advance health equity for the campus community, so all students are supported in their holistic wellbeing and to persist through college. Through their work, HEROs will develop professional skills around leadership, facilitation, program planning, assessment, communication, and more.

This is DIFFERENT than the media marketing (CEB). Media, Marketing, and Graphic Designers (MMGD’s) are responsible for the design and production of online and printed publications and posters for many units in the Division of Student Affairs and affiliate programs. An MMGD’s job is to successfully advertise an on-campus event or student resource to the student body through graphic and visual design. MMGD’s produce, publish, print, and distribute the BS Times. Student Media Engagement & Outreach Coordinator

The Student Media Outreach & Engagement Coordinator oversees the UWB Student Media brand to increase engagement, contributions, and participation with UWave Radio, the Husky Herald, and Clamor Literary & Arts Journal.

They work with the rest of the Student Media team (UWave Radio, Husky Herald, Clamor) to develop and execute plans for marketing, contributor outreach, class and faculty partnerships, and recruitment.

This position serves as the primary point-of-contact and support for student volunteers, prospective contributors, and audiences (readers, viewers, listeners), They also interact with and promote Student Media’s unique offerings to the greater UWB community, such as student organizations, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners.

Key work projects include: coordinating tabling and marketing, overseeing design of graphics and posters, delivering info sessions/presentations to prospective contributors, volunteers, and CELR classes, developing social media content for SM team members, training volunteers, emailing prospective contributors and partners, leading the event planning for the annual Student Media Showcase, and assisting with other Student Media programs (i.e., open mic nights).

Associated Students of the University of Washington Bothell (ASUWB) is the student government and serves as the official representative voice for UWB students. They exist to empower our student body. ASUWB promotes student interests and serves as a liaison between students and the university administration. ASUWB is composed of passionate and dedicated student leaders who are committed to advocating for all UWB students.

Paid elected positions include ASUWB President, Vice President, Directors of Outreach and Marketing, Directors of Student Advocacy and Campus Partnerships, and Director of Government Relations.

Campus Events Board (CEB)

Campus Events Board (CEB) plans a wide variety of large-scale events year-round to create positive, unique, and fun experiences at UW Bothell. CEB events include ARC Carnival, Spooktacular, SpringFest, Casino Night, dances, movie nights, high-profile speakers, and more.

The CEB Chair provides leadership and direction for the CEB team, supporting the members in their tasks and day-to-day operations, co-leads meetings, serves as a primary representative for CEB, and is the primary student programmer for Weeks of Welcome and Springfest (UWB’s largest on-campus events) in collaboration with partners across campus.

CEB student staff gain transferable skills in: event planning, collaboration, communication, leadership, time management, and strategic decision-making. The CEB student staff get to make connections with peers and partners, while understanding, shaping, and contributing meaningfully to fellow UWB students’ experiences.

Club Council

Club Council is composed of passionate and dedicated student leaders who are committed to serving clubs and building community at UW Bothell. These student leaders support club members, empower students, and maximize student voice in decision‐making.

The Club Council Chair provides leadership to the Club Council team, supporting its members in their day-to-day operations, presiding over the business meeting process, and serves as a primary representative of recognized student clubs at UW Bothell.

As part of the UWB Student Media team under Student Engagement & Activities (SEA), the Husky Herald is the campus student-run newspaper and the platform for student journalists, writers, photographers, and artists to get published. The Editor-in-Chief, Assistant Editor, and student writers/contributors drive the journalistic process: researching, interviewing, editing, reporting, and applying ethical practices. Students gain professional skills while publishing a newspaper in print and digital formats (Husky Herald website).

The Husky Herald editors mentor peers through the journalistic process, giving opportunities to learn valuable skills outside of the classroom. Students report about school events, current issues, and pop culture topics relevant to UWB students. Husky Herald empowers students’ right to practice free speech and expression. We are the printed voice of the student body.

Social Justice Organizers & Civic Education (SJCE)

The Social Justice and Civic Education team (SJCE) prepares students to enter the fields of event planning, marketing, organizing, social justice education, and careers requiring teamwork and leadership skills.

SJCE is a small team of passionate and dedicated student leaders who are committed to serving marginalized students and building community at UW Bothell. SJCE members empower students with structurally marginalized identities, increase access to identity-specific resources, create opportunities for social justice education, civic engagement, and celebration of all identities.

The SJCE Chair provides leadership to the SJCE team, supporting members in their day-to-day operations, leading team meetings, and serving as a representative of SJCE at UW Bothell.

Project Assistants

Project Assistants (PAs) provide customer service, operations support, and marketing for the department of Student Engagement & Activities (SEA). Project Assistants work in a team of 3 or 4 and perform their duties both individually and collaboratively.

Under the supervision of SEA professional staff, Project Assistants (PAs) support student organizations and clubs with event supplies, information, and poster printing. PAs manage office supplies and equipment, oversee the department inventory, collect and enter data, assist with marketing and tabling, provide tech support, maintain the department email, social media, and website, do occasional presentations about getting involved on campus, and perform general office work. The PAs also help manage the ILO shared office space, staff the ILO front desk, and oversee multiple storage areas.

Project Assistants gain valuable job skills, including project management, teamwork, web editing, social media management, marketing, budgeting, customer service, time management, and more. Project Assistants who apply for a second or third year of employment may gain additional marketable skills, including leadership, meeting facilitation, office management, and more.

UWave Radio

As part of the UWB Student Media team under Student Engagement & Activities (SEA), the UWave Radio is the UWB’s only student-run radio station with a 24/7 livestream. Through UWave, student staff receive hands-on experience and training consistent with broadcast radio industry standards, software, hardware, and practices. They train and support other students (volunteers, content creators) on how to use UWave’s studio equipment. Students learn, create, and showcase their media work, host shows, and produce podcasts published on our livestream.

UWave offers students a creative outlet through radio to voice ideas, share information, perspectives, and prompt dialogue. Students gain skills in: public speaking, event planning, leadership skills, radio hosting, podcasting, communication techniques, and get to work with equipment/technology.
