Sexual assault is a crime. You have the right to report a sexual assault to the police. A police investigation can lead to the accused person being found guilty of a misdemeanor or felony and lead to probation or jail time. Reporting to the police is also a way to get a protection order.

Sexual assault is a violation of university policy. You have the right to report – and the university encourages you to report – a sexual assault to the university. A university investigation can lead to disciplinary action being taken against a UW student or employee.
