Screenings of the 1967 Massey Lectures by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
January 14-17, 12pm - 1pm, The Center at CCC
Massey College, along with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and the House of Anansi Press, co-hosts the Massey Lectures, widely regarded as the most important public lectures in Canada. Established in 1961, these annual lectures are given by a noted scholar or public figure. They are broadcast by the CBC from cities across Canada, and published at the same time by House of Anansi Press.  The 1967 Massey Lectures, the “Conscience for Change”, were given by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., which were the final lectures by Dr. King in which he articulated his analysis and ideas about pertinent social, economic, and political issues of the time.  The lectures include:
·         Lecture 1: Merits of Non-violent Approaches to Race Relations
·         Lecture 2: Conscience and the Viet Nam War
·         Lecture 3: Youth Involvement in Societal Action and Change
·         Lecture 4: Non-violent Tactics and Mass Social Change
·         Lecture 5: Peace and Human Interdependence

2013 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration with Angela Davis
January 17, 6:30pm, Lynnwood Convention Center

Come celebrate the life and teachings of Dr. King through music, dance, and a celebration of our community with an inspirational message from our keynote speaker, Angela Davis. Through her activism and scholarship over the last decades, Angela Davis has been deeply involved in our nation's quest for social justice. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration
January 21, 9:30 am, Garfield High School

The Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee will host its 31st annual region-wide Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration on Monday, January 21, 2013, with the theme: "Let Freedom Ring!" Seattle has one of the largest annual Martin Luther King Day Celebrations in the U.S. This event honors Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., for his work toward racial equality and economic justice for all people, for his commitment to nonviolence, and for his stand against war and militarism.
