Biology

The Science and Technology Program is pleased to announce that the Higher Education Coordinating Board approved its proposal for a Bachelor of Science degree offering in Biology on July 15, 2010. The degree will provide students with a foundation in Biology that will enable them to pursue careers or graduate study in medicine, dentistry, health, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, ecology, biology, and biology education. The curriculum combines theory with hands-on experience that draws on the University of Washington Bothell’s strengths: small classes; strong faculty-student mentorship; integrative, problem-based teaching approaches; and research and internship opportunities outside the classroom. In addition to Biology coursework, students are required to take a course in Bioethics as well as a course connecting Biology and Society. Undergraduate research is an essential part of the degree program, and new biology lab space designed specifically for student research is currently under construction. “We’re very excited to be able to offer this wonderful opportunity to our students,” says Professor and Science and Technology Program Director Warren W. Buck.
