Oral and Poster Presenter Information

 Undergraduate Research Symposium Participants

We are very excited to have you present your work at the UW Bothell Undergraduate Research Symposium! We urge you to please read this page carefully because it contains IMPORTANT information for preparing for and attending the symposium.

ORAL PRESENTERS:

Creating Your Symposium Presentation:

Your presentation:

  • Should be ten minutes in length. This limit is strictly enforced. You will have an additional two minutes for Q&A.
  • Should be tailored to an educated, non-field expert audience.
  • May be accompanied by a visual slide show (e.g., PowerPoint) and/or handout
  • May include a live demonstration, performance, and/or audience participation.

Before the Symposium:

  • We would like to remind you to please send your slides by THURSDAY, MAY 8 at NOON to Charlotte at crasmussen@uwb.edu. She will send you a confirmation email to notify you that she has received it.  If she DOES NOT email you back, please send it again just in case.
  • Please look over the SCHEDULE sent to you via e-mail to find the session and time you are presenting. If you do not have this schedule, please email research@uwb.edu to recieve another copy.
  • Go to room UW1-220 prior to the Symposium, in order to get a feel for the room in which you are presenting.
  • Remember that we have practice sessions for your presentations that will help your success! 
  • Don’t forget to invite your friends, family, mentors, and anyone else you would like to attend!

On the Day of the Symposium:

  • Wear professional/business attire.
  • When you arrive, THE FIRST THING YOU SHOULD DO IS CHECK IN at the Undergraduate Research front desk that will be on the 2nd floor of UW1.
    • You will receive your name tag and any important  information.
  • Come prepared to the Symposium: oral presenters should also have their presentation files on a USB flash drive and backed up in the cloud.
  • Arrive early to presentation sessions, especially if presenting. Presenters are asked to be in their session room at least ten minutes prior to the beginning of the session.
  • If you arrive early and would like to go over your presentation one more time, we have a green room available for you (UW1-361) to practice!
  • Remain for the entirety of the presentation session to support your fellow peers!
  • Wait until students are finished delivering presentations (or are in between presentations) before entering a session room.
  • Please attend the panel discussion at noon-lunch provided.
  • Email research@uwb.edu with any questions about Symposium etiquette.

After the Symposium:

  • We would like to invite YOU and your mentor to our UW Bothell Undergraduate Research reception.
    • It will be from 4:00 – 5:00PM in the second floor vista of UW1

POSTER PRESENTERS:

Before the Symposium:

  • If you are using our poster printing services, please note that we will NOT be printing posters AFTER  5 pm on May 6th for the Symposium.
    • Check out our website for more information on HOW TO get started on poster printing and WHO TO CONTACT to have your poster printed.
    • If you are also planning on presenting your poster at the UW Seattle Undergraduate Research Symposium, we also print posters in their size: 40” x 32” for $28.85
  • ALL POSTERS need to be delivered to UW1-188 in the Student Success Center by THURSDAY (May 8th) at NOON!!!
  • Don’t forget to invite your friends, family, mentors, and anyone else you would like to drop by and see your poster!

On the Day of the Symposium:

  • Wear professional/business attire.
  • When you arrive, THE FIRST THING YOU SHOULD DO IS CHECK IN at the Office of Research desk located on the 2nd floor vista of UW1.
    • We will let you know where your poster is located and you will also receive a nametag.
  • Be prepared to give a 2-5 minute introduction to your research, scholarship or creative activity using your poster as your guide-this will make you more prepared to discuss your work with symposium attendees.
  • Please attend the panel discussion at noon-lunch provided.
  • Email research@uwb.edu with any questions about Symposium etiquette.

After the Symposium:

  • We would like to invite YOU and your mentor to our UW Bothell Undergraduate Research reception.
    • It will be from 4:00 – 5:00PM in the second floor vista of UW1
  • At 5:00 PM take down your posters.
    • Talk to your mentor about whether or not you’d like to keep your poster and where it might be located on campus.
    • Remember that you have the option of donating your poster to us if you don’t want to keep it!
