Where is The Nest Located?
The Nest is located in the Lower Level of the Activities and Recreation Center behind the Fitness Center Front Desk.
Can I come into The Nest?
If The Nest is open, students are welcome! We’re working on long-term solutions for better customer flow in and out of that space. For now, as long as there is a staff member present, students are welcome in that space. Please keep this in mind and keep that room clean and organized.
Can I rent from the Nest?
At this time, gear is only available to UWB students. This is due to the fact that The Nest is 100% funded by UWB student fees.
How much does it cost?
NOT MUCH! The fees we charge at The Nest are solely intended to help us maintain the equipment we currently have and plan for replacement as gear is worn out. The prices we have set are significantly lower than other local shops. We even have an assortment of clothing items that you can rent free of charge! How MUCH gear can I rent?
As much as you want, within reason. Students can rent gear for friends and family, but students are financially responsible for all of the gear they check out. Priority is always given to Outdoor Wellness programs who may be utilizing the gear for trips. We strongly recommend making reservations if you want to guarantee gear availability.
Can I return gear outside of gear shop business hours?
With advanced planning, yes. Gear may only be returned during gear shop hours OR by appointment. This is to ensure that trained staff is able to assess the condition of the gear being returned and whether any additional fees should be charged. Students will be charged a service fee if they drop off equipment outside of business hours without an appointment.
How Do I Reserve Gear?
To reserve any of our gear, go to to myarc.uw.edu. You will need to sign in using your UW NetID. Once you are signed in, click the 'Equipment' tab and then click 'Reserve Mode.' Please ensure that your desired check-out and check-in times are within regular business hours. During Winter Quarter 2016, The Nest Gear Shop will be open Mondays and Thursdays from 10:00AM-12:00PM & 5:00PM-7:00PM
Do you have skis/scuba equipment/bikes/climbing equipment/etc?
Specialty equipment is extremely expensive to purchase and maintain. At this time, the majority of our equipment is designed for hiking, backpacking, camping, and general exploring. We do have snow shoes, gym climbing equipment, and expedition sized backpacks for folks seeking a bit more adventure. We hope to add ice-axes and crampons to our inventory in the next few years and we are currently working with community partners to offer discounts on specialty equipment at local shops.
