First Quarter Advising
We hope your quarter is off to a great start! Your First Quarter Advising appointment is designed to allow an advisor to get to know you, answer your questions, and make sure you are ready for next quarter Registration. You should plan for a 30 minute appointment with your assigned advisor.
How do I make my appointment?
Click here to access the online appointment scheduling system. You will need your UW NetID to create an account. Once your account is created, you can schedule an appointment up to three weeks in advance.
When will First Quarter Advising take place?
Ideally between weeks 3 and 7 of the quarter. We still want to meet with you even if it is after week 7.
How can I prepare for my appointment?
Review the Major Planning Worksheet for your intended major, MyPlan or the next quarter Time Schedule to have an idea of what courses you might want to take. If you don’t know what classes to choose, no worries, we will work with you during your appointment.
May I come in during Quick Question Hours for my First Quarter Advising appointment?
No, Quick Questions are 10 minute sessions to answer "quick" questions related to policy or finding an additional class to add to your schedule. Your First Quarter Advising Appointment will take 30 minutes.
What happens if I do not meet with an advisor?
You run the risk of not taking classes appropriate for your academic and career goals. Even if you have a good idea of the classes you should be taking, it is nice to meet with an advisor and confirm you are on the right track.
Remember: don’t wait until the last minute. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the First Year and Pre-Major Program (FYPP) Office at firstname.lastname@example.org or 425-352-3427.
