Ruth Johnston serves as Vice Chancellor for University of Washington Bothell Planning & Administration and provides leadership for administrative, financial, facilities, safety, information technology, governmental and community relations, and organizational excellence/human resource. Johnston is a longtime University leader, with 37 years of experience in areas including housing and food services, continuing education, human resources, financial management, finance and facilities, and student fiscal services. Prior to assuming her role at UW Bothell in January 2017, she served as Associate Vice President and Chief of Staff for the UW Planning & Management, with responsibility for units including organizational excellence, UW Sustainability and the business diversity program.
Johnston holds a doctorate in organizational development and higher education, a master’s degree in human relations and a bachelor’s in counseling psychology. Ruth serves as third Vice President on the Western Association of College & University Business Officers (WACUBO) board of directors, and has served on the Network of Change and Continuous Improvement (NCCI) board, the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) board, and NACUBO Sustainability Advisory Panel. She teaches a variety of classes and workshops, and consults with higher education institutions and associations and some federal agencies.
