Butch de Castro, associate professor in the UW Bothell School of Nursing and Health Studies, is moving to the UW School of Nursing in Seattle as the school’s associate dean for diversity, equity and inclusion.
Some of the same concepts in virtual reality (VR) that took a UW Bothell team to the national finals of Microsoft’s Imagine Cup were introduced to middle school students at Pacific Science Center summer camps taught by computer science and education majors.
Many of the students entering the UW Bothell Master of Arts in policy studies (MAPS) program already share a network of friendships and experiences in congressional offices that make them stand out. They expect the MAPS degree will help move them into careers where they can have an even greater impact.
Chancellor Wolf Yeigh thanked staff for their dedication to students and to the campus. He cited several large-scale campus accomplishments from the past year, including Commencement at Safeco Field, the transition to Workday and opening of the diversity center.
The three University of Washington campuses implemented a “social belonging” program with student orientation. Researchers have found that students who feel they belong on campus are more connected, more productive and more likely to graduate.
