UW Bothell co-hosts Sally Ride Science Festival

Published: October 6, 2014

UW Bothell co-hosted the first Sally Ride Science Festival in the Pacific Northwest. Organizers and 100 volunteers set the stage for more than 500 attendees – mostly girls - to engage in two dozen workshops and 30 exhibits. They met former astronauts, tested hands printed by a 3D printer, learned about anatomy and robotics, and of course, made slime.

The festival, primarily focused on engaging middle school girls in hands-on activities to sustain their interest in STEM fields, was brought to UW Bothell by former astronaut Capt. Wendy Lawrence. As a member of the UW Bothell Advisory Board, Lawrence knew we would be a perfect fit because of our commitment to engaging more girls, women and other underrepresented groups in STEM.
