BOTHELL, Wash. – UW Bothell student, Noreen Refai, has been awarded the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of King County Scholarship for 2011-12. The insurance association has been awarding scholarships to deserving students since 2001.

“I am thrilled to be named as the recipient of this prestigious scholarship,” says Refai. “The previous honorees have all turned out to be very successful students. So the scholarship is both a distinction and a key factor in my ability to stay in college.”

Refai is a junior majoring in business. She is on track to graduate in 2013. In her freshman year, Refai and a fellow student placed first in state in a collegiate international marketing competition.

According to Lynette Grandy, the association’s president, “Our group has used this longstanding scholarship program to provide financial support for college students who show an interest in the insurance industry. We also provide a funded internship program to teach students firsthand what the independent insurance agent does from ‘A to Z.’ The Board of Directors congratulates recipient Noreen Refai and extends its best wishes as she continues her studies at UW Bothell.”
