BOTHELL, Wash. - The University of Washington Bothell welcomes R. Brooks Gekler as Director of its Business Development Center, a unit within the Business Program at UW Bothell. Steve Holland, Director of the Business Program says, "We look forward to the Business Development Center growing under Brooks Gekler's leadership to connect hundreds of students with local companies and organizations through classroom projects."
As Director, Gekler will lead the Center, launched in 2006 to serve small businesses in the North King/South Snohomish region. Gekler will be responsible for outreach, project development and oversight of consulting projects between BDC higher education partners and community business owners focused on driving profitable business growth.
Gekler brings over twenty-five years of experience in the business and education sectors. Most notably, after retiring from General Mills, Inc. as Corporate Vice President, Gekler directed the Augsburg College MBA Management Consulting Program, managing 45-50 clients and student consulting projects annually. He holds an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University and a Bachelor's degree in English Literature and History from Vassar College.
About the BDC: The mission of the Business Development Center is to foster a vibrant, sustainable economy and excellent quality of life in the Sno-King region by providing business assistance to small business clients. It focuses primarily on start-ups in emerging industries, existing companies seeking to leverage technology to develop their businesses, and women- and minority-owned businesses. Since its founding, it has conducted approximately 35 student consulting projects and 50 one-on-one consulting projects, providing services valued at more than $350,000 to local small businesses.
