BOTHELL, Wash. - The campus of the University of Washington Bothell will be full of activity on Tuesday, September 23 as it hosts its annual fall Convocation, honors campus contributor Richard Truly and opens its new student fitness center.

The Convocation, a ceremony to welcome incoming students, will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the south parking garage. The event will celebrate approximately 335 (FTE) new students who will be joining UW Bothell for the fall quarter which begins on September 24. Of the 335 students, 250 are freshman, the largest class to date.

During the ceremony, Senator Rosemary McAuliffe, on behalf of the campus leadership, will pay special tribute to Richard Truly, a longtime campus supporter and former owner of the Boone-Truly Ranch, atop which the UW Bothell - Cascadia Community College Campus now resides.

Following at 1:00 p.m. in UW1, a ribbon-cutting will be held for the new student fitness center; a center funded by the students for the students, using student activity and student technology fees.

Both events demonstrate the exciting growth on campus. With record freshman enrollment counts, new facilities and new academic programs, the campus is growing to meet regional needs by making higher education more accessible and by continuing to service student needs.

Media are invited to both events. For additional information, contact Elizabeth Fischtziur at 425.352.3636.
