Admission

Applications are now available at the UW Graduate School Website

Admission to the MSCSS degree requires the following course equivalencies or completion of the Graduate Certificate in Software Design & Development, in addition to a Bachelors degree.  Bachelors degrees can be in the computing field or other discipline.

  • Fundamental and Intermediate Object-Oriented Programming (equivalent to CSS 161, CSS 162 & CSS 342)
  • Data Structures & Algorithms (equivalent to CSS 343)
  • Discrete Mathematics (equivalent to CSS 342)
  • Software Engineering (equivalent to CSS 360)
  • Analysis and Design (equivalent to CSS 370)
  • Calculus 1 (Math 124)

For those who are currently working in the software industry, but lack formal training in computer science, or desire entry into the software industry, the CSS Program offers a Graduate Certificate in Software Design & Development (GCSDD). GCSDD courses formalize practical education with an indepth introduction to programming, algorithms and the software development lifecycle.

Please contact the Computing & Software Systems Graduate Advising Office to establish equivalent competencies. Curriculum in the MSCSS program will build upon these competencies in core and elective classes. Applicants seeking establishment of competencies should be ready to submit course syllabi or detailed course descriptions of equivalent coursework.
