To provide strategic thought leadership and community connections to the UW Bothell MS Accounting Program (Program), working collaboratively with Program leadership and faculty.
The MS Accounting Advisory Board (MSAB) comprises professionals from a variety of backgrounds who share a commitment to the University of Washington, the Bothell campus, the MS Accounting Program, its faculty, staff and students. The MSAB invests its time, energy and resources on a pro bono basis for the betterment of the Program and its stakeholders. The Campus, School and Program value and recognize these multifaceted contributions.
The board will focus on three primary areas to achieve its purpose:
Act as ambassadors on the Program’s behalf in building external relationships,
Assist the Program in achieving its mission of providing a quality education through contributions in areas such as internships, classroom connections, faculty research and business exposure, and
Assist in fund-raising activities to benefit the Program.
Rohit Amberker - Finance Director
Rohit serves as a Finance Director at Microsoft Inc. He is a finance professional with experience in technology, advertising, consulting and energy and utilities industries. He is a CPA, Certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Chartered Accountant, Information Systems Auditor and Certified Global Management Accountant. He is a student of ceramic arts for the past 6 years and loves making pots.
Ade’ Ariwoola - Finance Director
City of Federal Way
Mr. Ade’ Ariwoola, MBA, CGFM is a talented and visionary leader with a reputation for integrity and ability to influence results. He currently acts as the Finance Director, City of Federal Way, Federal Way, Washington. As the chief financial officer of the city, he currently manages an annual budget of over $200 million. He previously served as the Finance Director, City of Ellensburg, Ellensburg, WA and Financial Services Manager, Kitsap County, Port Orchard, WA. Mr. Ariwoola achieved an MBA from Gonzaga University and obtained a Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from Washington State University, Pullman, WA. He is deeply involved in various educational, professional and civic bodies and is the current President of the Washington Finance Officers Association.
Elizabeth Masnari - Senior Director of Internal Audit
Providence St. Joseph Health
Elizabeth Masnari is Senior Director of Internal Audit for Providence St. Joseph Health, the third largest Catholic Health Care Organization in the United States. Located in Renton, WA, Elizabeth oversees an internal audit team responsible for providing audit and controls advisory services across seven Western states. With over 35 years of audit and risk management experience, Elizabeth started her career in public accounting before moving into the private sector. Prior to joining Providence in 2009, Elizabeth held audit and risk management positions at Bank of America (formally Seafirst Bank), McKesson and Washington Mutual. She received her undergraduate degree in Accounting from the University of Washington and an MBA degree from Washington State University. She is a Certified Public Accountant and is currently serving her third three-year term on the Washington State Board of Accountancy. Elizabeth has also served on the Board of the Washington Society of CPAs and on the Board of the Arc of King County. She lives in Bellevue with her husband Jeff and teenage son Nathan.
Chris McKee - Controller
Chris McKee is an accounting professional with over 10 years of experience working with international companies. Mr. McKee holds an MBA from the University of Washington Bothell and is a licensed CPA in the state of Washington since 2011. Currently a Controller for Philips Healthcare in Bothell, he manages a portfolio of software businesses which generate $250 million of revenue annually. Previous industry experience has included pharmaceutical research as well as fleet leasing.
Mr. McKee holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Central Washington University as well as in Theatre Arts from Western Washington University. He is excited to help students as part of the MSA Advisory Board.
Alpa Parikh - Director, Internal Audit
Puget Sound Energy
Alpa is a leader with over fifteen years of finance and internal audit experience across healthcare, technology, and most recently, the energy sector. Currently, she serves as the Director of Internal Audit for Puget Sound Energy, a 3 billion dollar company with 1.9 million customers and over 10 billion dollars in assets. Additional responsibilities include overseeing the ethics program across an employee base of 2,700 constituents. Prior experience includes various financial positions of increasing responsibility at Univar (Director of Internal Controls), Protiviti (Senior Manager in Healthcare and Technology), Cigna (Financial Reporting Manager) and a regional Public Accounting firm in Kenya (Auditor). Significant experience with Boards of Directors and Audit Committees over the past ten years, especially in highly regulated environments such as Healthcare and Energy. She is an active board member of the Puget Sound Chapter Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) since 2009, Masters in Accounting Advisory Board member at the UW Bothell (2017) and a graduate (2015) of the Utility Executive Course at the University of Idaho, the premier industry-driven executive education program designed specifically for utility leaders.
Jennifer Phillips - City Manager
City of Bothell
Jennifer obtained her Bachelor’s of Science and Master’s in Public Administration Degrees from CSU, Long Beach and is a graduate of the Harvard Kenney School. Her nearly 30 years of public administration experience include working at the LA County Sanitation Districts, assisting 88 cities with implementation of recycling programs; Orange County Transportation Authority where she oversaw the development of the agency’s $462M budget, $2B Long Range Financial Plan, and administration of over $150M in grant funding; City of Fullerton as Assistant to the City Manager, and County of Orange serving as a Department Director. Prior to joining Bothell, she was the City Manager of St. Helena, CA and Assistant City Manager with the cities of Santa Monica and Santa Rosa. Jennifer was also an Adjunct Professor with CSU Fullerton and instructor with UC Davis. She remains active within the City Manager profession and is particularly proud of her role as a founding Board Member of Women Leading Government which began in California and is expanding across the United States, and she hopes to start a chapter in Washington. She is married to her husband, Wes, and together with their dog, Palu, they are excited to be part of the Bothell community!
Tami Schackman - Finance Director
City of Bothell
Tami Schackman has worked in the finance field for 35 years, with over 25 years in government finance. She is currently the Finance Director for the City of Bothell, where she has worked since July 2001.
Bothell has a residential population of 44,546 and a commercial population in excess of 25,000. Tami is the Chief Financial Officer for the full service City, which has a $225 million budget for 2017-2018 and more than 300 employees.
In addition to Tami’s fiscal responsibilities, she is also responsible for the oversight of Bothell’s Capital Facilities Plan (CFP), which contains $246,310,000 in community facility, park, transportation and utility capital infrastructure investment.
Under Tami’s direction, Bothell’s Finance Department has earned the Government Finance Officers Association’s “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” for the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report each year since 2001, and the “Distinguished Budget Presentation" award each year since 2002. These awards represent the highest standard achievable in government accounting, financial reporting and budget presentation.
Tami holds a bachelor’s degree in Business and Accounting from Central Washington University.
Scott Schumacher - Associate Dean
University of Washington School of Law
Professor Scott Schumacher is the Associate Dean at the UW School of Law. He is the Director of the Graduate Program in Taxation and also the Director of the Law School's Federal Tax Clinic. He teaches courses in taxation and White Collar Crime. Prior to joining the UW law school faculty full-time 2001, he was an attorney with Chicoine & Hallett, P.S., in Seattle, where his practice focused on civil and criminal tax controversy and litigation. He also served as a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice Tax Division and an attorney-advisor to the Hon. Arthur L. Nims, III, Chief Judge of the U.S. Tax Court. He is admitted to the bars in Washington state, the U.S. Supreme Court and numerous federal courts.
Howard Snow - Director, Finance and Accounting Systems
Mr. Snow is an established leader with over twenty years of Accounting and IT experience in private industry. Currently, he works with McKinstry, an innovative Design Build/Energy Services contractor in Seattle where he directs the ongoing support, customization and strategic road map of the company's Enterprise Resource Planning systems. Howard enjoys creating solutions, enabling the business towards better project performance and providing access to critical data for making strategic business decisions. His educational background includes an undergraduate degree in Accounting from the Foster School of Business and a MS in Accounting from the University of Washington Bothell School of Business. Howard is a proud veteran of the US Army having served in Louisiana, Germany and Kuwait. In his free time, he enjoys spending time in Central and Eastern Washington with his wife and has an avid interest in boating, camping and finding great wine.
