Hardware and Software Recommendations

Computer Recommendations for Majors - If you want to focus on media development it is recommended that you purchase an Apple Mac Computer (with the minimum requirements below). If you are interested in project management it is recommended that you purchase a Windows computer (with the minimum requirements below).

General recommended minimum system specifications:

Apple - Mac

  • MacBook Pro with an Intel processor i5 or i7
  • Operating System: Mac OS X 10.8.x or higher
  • Ram: Minimum 8GB RAM
  • Storage Space: 500 GB (or larger) Hard Drive or Solid-State Drive (SSD) 250 GB (or larger)

Note: Windows OS can be installed on Apple computers via a program called Boot Camp. You can find more information about Boot Camp online https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/

Windows OS

  • Intel Core i7 64-bit processor
  • Operating System: Windows 7 or 8 (64-bit)
  • Ram: Minimum 8GB RAM
  • Storage Space: 750 GB (or larger) Hard Drive or Solid-State Drive (SSD) 250 GB (or larger)

Note: If you plan to use 3D animation software you will need to purchase a laptop with a dedicated graphics card. For more information please contact slevesque@uwb.edu.
