The standards addressed in the professional portfolio are the Washington State standards for professional certification.

2. Eligibility and Approval

This option is ONLY available to M.Ed. students who, as certificated teachers, (a) have been admitted to the UW Bothell Professional Certification Program and (b) have successfully completed the required Pro Cert seminars at UW Bothell.

3. Timelines

Students choosing to work toward Professional Certification in the UW Bothell program must make a formal application in conjunction with one of the Education Program’s application deadlines. Normally, application for the Professional Certification will be submitted before or simultaneously with application to the Masters’ program. If a student wishes to apply for the Professional Certification Program after admission to the M.Ed. program, it is important to make this choice early in their program, in order to allow sufficient time to complete the series of required courses. Generally, five academic quarters are required to complete these courses. These required courses must be taken in sequence, but can be taken at any time in a student’s M.Ed. program. Incorporates Faculty Decisions through 6/3/09 9

4. Course registration requirements

Before the Professional Certification Portfolio will be assessed as a part of the Completion Dossier, students must register for and satisfactorily complete all of the seminars that are required in the Professional Certification Program. The Portfolio will also build upon expertise attained through core and elective courses in the M.Ed. program and the student’s teaching practice.

5. Assessment of the Professional Certification Portfolio as part of the Completion Dossier

Assessment of the Professional Certification Portfolio as a part of the Completion dossier for the UW Bothell M.Ed. degree is independent of assessment for the portfolio for Washington State Professional Certification. As noted in the rubric above, assessment as a part of the completion dossier is guided by the Education program goals as these are elaborated in the rubric for evaluating completion dossiers. The Completion Dossier is evaluated as a whole and does not include a separate assessment of the Professional Certification Portfolio.
