WELCOME TO THE BOTHELL CAMPUS LIBRARY

I've created this web guide to help you find resources in the Bothell Campus Library while you are researching your topics. The Campus Library is a curriculum driven library. That means that we buy books for the classes taught at the University of Washington Bothell and Cascadia Community College. If there is an area that no one teaches, we may not have many books in that area. It's likely the libraries on the Seattle Campus might have more available on some topics.

Only patrons with a valid UW Libraries Borrowing Card can check out books. You are welcome to read the books in the library or use the copy machines to copy relevant pages. When you see a database with the phrase UW Restricted, you can only access it from the Library unless you are a student at UW or CCC. You will not be able to access UW Restricted from home.

The Campus Library is open to the public. The 50 computers in the Information Commons on the first floor are available to all users. There are generic logons on each computer, so you shouldn't have problems logging in to them. We've never had this happen, but in the event that all the computers in the Information Commons are being used, students at UW Bothell and CCC have first priority.

The Library has a fee for print system in the Information Commons. To save money, we suggest that you email or download articles or other resources you find online. If you need assistance, ask someone at the Information Commons Desk.

During the time you are here this morning, we'll be going over some of the resources that are available at the Campus Library. These include

UW Libraries Catalog

Begin your UW Libraries research from home or school by using the UW Libraries Catalog. The catalog includes the more than six million books, journal subscriptions, maps and other materials owned by the 18 libraries that make up the UW Libraries. Although the UW Libraries is accessible from off-campus, only students, faculty and staff from UW and Cascadia Community College are allowed to check out books. Of course, you can look at the materials while you are in the library.

If you are doing your research at the Bothell Campus Library, you can limit your search to only the books we have here. When you are in the UW Libraries Catalog, change the location from Entire Collection to Bothell/CCC Campus Library. The background will turn yellow, and you'll only be searching for materials we have in the Bothell Campus Library.

In the Catalog, you can search by Author, Title or Keyword. You'll probably want to start out with a keyword search. Reminder: Your search terms must match those that are in a book's record. Since a book's record doesn't contain lots of words, you want to be broad yet precise. In other words, it's not Google. Do not use keyword phrases such as

political atrocities during the Stalin years

A better search would be

political atrocities and Stalin

If you have any questions while you are searching the UW Libraries Catalog, please ask for help. If you are in the library, a librarian would be happy to assist you. If you are off campus, there are many ways to contact us!

Be sure to write down the call number and the LOCATION. There are many locations within the Campus Library. It can be frustrating to look for a book in the General Stacks when the book is located in the Reference Shelves on the first floor.
