Criteria for Source Evaluation
SOME POINTS TO CONSIDER
 
  • First, read the article. Then answer the following questions:
  1. What is the main-point or argument?


  1. What evidence does the author give to substantiate his/her argument?  



    A. From where was the information obtained (e.g., which source or how was the information derived)?



    B. Is the research adequate to support the author's argument?


  1. How is the presentation of information handled?  Is it balanced? Is more than one point of view given?


  1. Who is the intended audience?



  2. How effective is the layout (e.g., illustrations)?


  3. Who Published this?  What do you know about the reputation and style of the publisher?



  4. What do you still need to know? What hasn't the author answered?



  5. Explain how the article fits or does not fit your research assignment.
