Google Apps is a set of web tools that let students, staff, and faculty easily collaborate with each other on assignments, projects, and other tasks. The University of Washington has partnered with Google to provide Google Apps for UW. Students, staff, faculty, and alumni with valid UW NetIDs are eligible to use Google Apps.
Activating UW Google Apps
To activate your UW Google Apps:
Log in to MyUW
Click on My Account in the top right corner of the screen.
In the left navigation on this page, click UW Google Apps
Read the terms and agreements and check the 'I agree..' box
You can ignore Step 2
Click 'No, do not change delivery setting'. You can always change your email forwarding settings at a later time
Make sure your first and last names are spelled correctly
Click Sign Up
Once you see this page that congratulates you for signing up, you know that your UW Google Apps are active.
To get to your UW Google Apps is to go to gsites.uw.edu. You will be prompted to log in with your UW Net ID and password. The first time you enter your UW Google Apps, agree to Google’s Terms of Service. After you read the terms of service, type the characters you see in the Captcha picture and click 'I accept. Continue to my account'.
You have successfully activated your UW Google Apps!

Ad-free e-mail with over 30GB of storage. This is automatically as your @u.washington.edu or @uw.edu email address.
Schedule meetings, create events, and share calendars. Can be synced with Outlook using the Google Calendar Sync.
Online office tools that let you create, store, and collaborate on documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
Create and manage websites with an easy to use editor. This tool is used to create student ePortfolios at UWB.
Instant messaging and video/voice chat tool via web browser. Allows you to chat with anyone who has a Google account.
Social networking tool that contains collaborative features such as Circles and Hangouts. Useful for selective sharing of documents and information.
Create custom maps, get directions, and save locations in Google Maps. You can share your maps with others.
Easily create and publish a blog with Blogger. You can share your blog with your contacts or open it up to the public.
Create a YouTube channel to start uploading videos and movies. You can embed your uploaded content to websites and blogs.
In addition, your account is also valid for many other tools
that are supported by Google. However, it should be noted that your UW Google Apps account is different from a regular Google account and that some tools may not be accessible.
Additionally, you can now log-in to UW Google Apps directly from the Google homepage. To do this, you will type in YourNetID@uw.edu for the username and click login. You will be prompted to enter your password on the following page.
