Blackboard for Students

warning iconImportant: Blackboard is no longer being used to teach classes at UW Bothell. UW Bothell has transitioned to Canvas as our primary learning management system. Please see note below for more details on the transition.

Transitioning from Blackboard to Canvas

Please note that Blackboard is being phased out at the University of Washington Bothell as part of the institution's transition to Canvas. All courses will be taught in Canvas starting Summer 2013. By December 31st, 2013, all Blackboard servers will be shut down and any content currently on Blackboard will be permanently unavailable. Students should contact their instructors to find course materials and grades.

For more information about getting started with Canvas, please view our Canvas for Instructors page.

To access Blackboard, go to http://bb.uwb.edu

  • Returning users should continue to login using their existing accounts.
  • New students should read the Getting Started section below.

To enroll in courses, students will no longer click on the previous enroll button from the course search view. Now (as with many other options in Bb 9.1), students will click the chevron icon next to the course's ID and select Enroll to be listed as a student in the course.

Please Note: Blackboard accounts are separate from registering for courses with your UW NETID, so you will have to enroll in your courses at Blackboard in addition to registering for them.

Preparing for the Transition to Canvas

As you may have heard, the University of Washington Bothell will be replacing Blackboard this year with a new learning management system called Canvas. Soon, many of your professors who have used Blackboard will need to switch to Canvas if they wish to continue working in a LMS.

It is very important for students to save any work they may have stored in Blackboard to their computer. Students may wish to save their files for their records/portfolio purposes, or simply as a precaution. To learn more about saving files from Blackboard to a personal computer, see the section titled Backing up data on Blackboard.
