How to Find Windows 7 Computer Hostname and IP Addresses

To access the IP Address of a Windows 7 computer:

-          Click the Windows 7  Start Button

-          In the “Search programs and folders” box, type cmd and press enter

-          Type ipconfig /all then press enter.

-          Look for the IPv4 Address detailed below.

 

To access the Hostname of a Windows 7 computer:

-          Click the Windows 7  Start Button

-          In the “Search programs and folders” box, type cmd and press enter

-          Type hostname press enter

-          The hostname of the computer will be returned on the next line.

 

How to Find Windows XP Computer Hostname and IP Addresses

To access the IP Address of a Windows XP computer:

-          Click the Windows XP Start Button, then click run

-          Enter cmd in the box

-          Type ipconfig /all then press enter

-          Look for IP address under the Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection

To access the Hostname of a Windows XP computer:

-          Click the Windows XP Start Button, then click run

-          Enter cmd in the box

-          Type Hostname then press enter

-          The hostname of the computer will be returned on the next line.

 

How to Find Macintosh Computer IP Address

The IP Address is the address given to the computer by the network. We can use this address to remotely connect to the computer. This information can also be used in troubleshooting to verify network connectivity.

To access the IP address of a Macintosh computer:

-          Open Finder

-          Open Applications

-          Open Utilities

-          Open the Terminal

For the Wired Ethernet IP Address:

o   Type ipconfig getifaddr en0

o   The IP address of the computer will be returned on the next line

For the Wireless Ethernet IP Address:

o    Type ipconfig getifaddr en1

o   The IP address of the computer will be returned on the next line

How to Find Macintosh Computer MAC Address

The MAC address is the Physical address of the network interface. Typically we need this information to resolve blocked computer connections.

To access the Mac address of a Macintosh computer:

-          Open Finder

-          Open Applications

-          Open Utilities

-          Open the Terminal

For the Wired Ethernet Mac Address:

o   Type Ifconfig en0 ether

o   Look for ether. The mac address will look like xx:bb:cc:11:22:33

For the Wireless Ethernet Mac Address:

o   Type Ifconfig en1 ether

o   Look for ether. The mac address will look like xx:bb:cc:11:22:33
