Wake Up A Campus Computer

How do I use remote desktop when my computer is asleep?

Since UW Bothell's PowerSave service puts on-campus computers to sleep after a period of inactivity, you will need to wake the on-campus computer up in order to use remote desktop.

Write down your on-campus computer name while you are on-campus

  1. While on-campus, right-click on the "computer" (Windows 7) or "My Computer" (Windows XP) icon on the desktop of your on-campus computer.
  2. Click "Properties" and note the computer name that ends in "...uwb.edu" in the popup window. Your computer name will probably also contain your office location and look something like: UW1-390x-PC01.uwb.edu.

Note: The computer name is the same name you use to connect when using Remote Desktop.

Wake up your on-campus computer from anywhere

  1. From your off-campus computer, go to the Powersave Wakeup Site
  2. Type your Computer Name into the Faronics Core search box on the right (leave all other settings the same) and click the Search button.
  3. Once the system has found your workstation, check the box next to your computer name and click the Wake up Selected Workstations button and the computer will now be available for remote desktop

I have tried the above methods for connecting to my computer and I still can't connect.  What do I do?
