Now Hiring Student Helpdesk Technicians

The student technician position can take on a few different forms. Please read the following descriptions to gain a better sense of the type of work you could be ask to perform.

Helpdesk Computing Support:

  • Represent UWB IT as the first point of contact for our patrons.
  • Answer our main phone line to assist patrons with their computing and technology needs.
  • Assist patrons with a number of basic computing questions ranging from printer troubleshooting to wireless network access.

Classroom and Event Support:

  • Maintain a fast moving and constantly changing schedule for the deployment and recover of technology for events and classrooms
  • Assist your department leads in setting up and tearing down audio/visual equipment for events around campus.

Production Services:

  • Assist department lead with editing, printing, and publishing of digital and physical media needs of the campus. This may include videos, photos, posters, etc.
  • Help set up for photo and video shoots around campus
  • Work with a variety of media editing software programs such as Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, and Microsoft Publisher.



  • Must be a current UW student enrolled in at least 6 credits- If you're not planning on taking classes during the summer, as long as you were enrolled in at least 6 credits during Spring quarter then you're fine. If you're a new (freshman/transfer) student and your first class on campus doesn't start until Fall quarter, unforunately the policy also states that you cannot work on campus until after your classes begin; unfortunately this means we could not hire you at this time.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • A minimum of one year's worth of prior customer service experience
  • UWB IT requires a one year commitment from our student technicians with no exceptions. For example, if you're hired for Summer Quarter 2015 then you must be able to work until the end of Summer Quarter 2016.

  3. Make sure to include the following within a single file that is attached to the email:
  • A cover letter*
  • Resume
  • Hours of availability next quarter**
  • Class Schedule from Spring Quarter 2015 (and Summer '15 if applicable)
  • Expected quarter and year of graduation***

**According to University policy, only students currently enrolled in at least 6 credits can be hired for on-campus jobs.
